Methodist Church Votes To Allow Same-sex Marriages by SirIconR(m): 7:08am On Jul 01, 2021
The Methodist Church has become the largest religious denomination in the UK to permit same-sex marriages.

The Church announced on Wednesday that same-sex couples will be allowed to get married on its premises. After debates on the topic at the Methodist Conference, the proposals to allow same-sex marriages were passed with 254 votes in favor and 46 against.

The Methodist Church said ministers who oppose the changes will not be forced to carry out same-sex marriages.

Dignity & Worth, a campaign group in the Methodist Church, said the vote was a “momentous step on the road to justice and inclusion” after many years of sometimes painful conversations.

Rev. Sam McBratney, who chairs the group, praised the “courageous step” taken by the church.

The Rev Sonia Hicks, elected as the Methodists’ first black female president at the weekend, said it was a “historic day for our church”. She urged people “to support each other respecting our differences”.

Jayne Ozanne, a campaigner for LGBT+ equality and a member of the C of E’s ruling body, the General Synod, said the vote reflected “the significant shift that there has been among Christian attitudes in England, and shows how so many people would echo the recent call of Bishop Paul Bayes to allow same-sex marriage in the C of E”.

The church has a membership of 164,000, making it the fourth-largest denomination of Christian churches in the U.K.

So you are saying that the church itself doesn't follow the bible anymore?

Good

They brought religion to Africa, so Africa must accept this also.

I think it is wrong to impose your preference upon another and that is why I am much uncomfortable with the practices in Africa where homosexuals are pronounced criminals and convicted. Homosexuality is most prevalent in our prisons anyway and such action is not only counterproductive but evil as well. I think adults should be allowed to do whatever they want as regards their sexuality insofar consensual and the law should protect them.

As a believer however, I am much disappointed in the position of the Methodist church. The church should be courageous enough to tell people having such tendencies or attraction that it’s a sin which as all sins negates the desire of God and offends him.
The church should have open doors however , welcoming those with such tendencies, having a therapeutic exercise with them in a bid to cure them of such tendencies. The hospital is made for the sick and so should our churches.

We must be warm to sinners, and pray God shows mercy to them as He has shown to us... but allowing the church to become the altar of what God has called forbidden is reckless and shows the prevalence of the world in the church, than God in the church. It gives false hope to the offenders of God’s will, and permeates a culture in the church, that it is normal to have such attraction or preference.

As the church goes south, and the instrument of the gospel becomes more worldly, and the heart of the gospel is sourced in the acceptance of the world; there would continue to be such dangerous and reckless compromises.

How many churches in Nigeria in solidarity against TB Joshua ban from YouTube for calling homosexuals as demonically possessed, suspended their own YouTube account?

It is so, too with Twitter, which increasingly is made the new church, where a tweet about the commandment of God is considered offensive and has severe consequences but yet our fathers in the Lord remain there, compromising in a bid for its acceptance.
