NEWS: Ogun villagers flee community over fear of herdsmen attack

Residents of Olokemeji-Olowo in Odede Local Government Area of Ogun State have fled their community over fear of being attacked by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

DAILY POST recalls that the lawmaker representing Odeda State Constituency at the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Oludaisi Elemide on Monday cried out over the killing of one of his constituents by suspected herdsmen.

Our correspondent gathered that trouble started last weekend when the village vigilantes captured a suspected kidnapper and held him down.

The suspect, Fulani was said to have pleaded that he be allowed to contact his leaders on phone.

After the call, his leaders reportedly stormed the village and shot dead one vigilante, while rescuing their errand boy.

Exasperated, the villagers had applied some harmful substances on their farms, and this led to the death of many cows belonging to the Fulanis.

As they envisaged possible attack from the herdsmen, the villagers have deserted their homes in Olokemeji-Olowo, a border town between Ogun and Oyo States.

But, the Caretaker Chairman in Odeda Local Government, Bola Lawal said the leaders of the Fulani herdsmen in the state have been told to talk to their people both in Ogun and Oyo States.

Lawal stated that meetings had been held with Stakeholders, including security agencies, to forestall any attack, adding that Governor Dapo Abiodun had also been briefed.

Confirming the incident to DAILY POST, Ogun Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed that the situation is under control.

Oyeyemi stated that the command had deployed its men to the community for safety of lives and property.

“The people are just being apprehensive. In fact, police are there everyday and there were meetings between the residents, the Fulanis and police. The Police are there everyday to maintain law and order.

“They killed some cows and because of that, they are being apprehensive over a possible attack.

The Fulani's are unrepentant and very revengeful tribe. Reminds me of a time when warriors were chased away from the town only for the enemies to attack.

Everybody hear this loud and clear, fulanis and BMCs are the ones making tribal comments on nairaland.

Everyday, i checked gossipmill, tunde ednut's page, pulse Niger, instablog9ja and other pages on IG and I'll assure you that no yoruba is laughing at MNK the way it's done on Nairaland.

No igbo is laughing at chief Sunday ighoho the way BMCs made us believe here.

Let's unite as southerners and fight our common enemy.

THE ENEMY IS ALREADY AT THE GATE
