A mentally changed man was mercilessly beaten by angry mob for allegedly stabbing a young man in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital.



The incident reportedly happened at Choba Junction axis of the East/West Road on Wednesday morning, July 7.



It was gathered that the victim said to be in his early 20s, was awaiting a shuttle to ferry him to Rumuokoro when the incident happened.



According to reports, the mentally challenged man said to be popular in the area allegedly approached the young man for money but he ignored him.

Miffed by the young man’s action, the ‘lunatic’ was alleged to have brought out a knife and stabbed him.





The victim immediately slumped and was rushed to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.





Angered by his action, traders and motorists gave the said lunatic a thorough beating.

This same thing happened some years ago. A very hefty notorious mad guy that used to make people shudder out of their skin when ever he's coming, attacked a young guy with a bottle. I can't really remember now if he killed the gentle man. That was how guys rushed him and beat him to death. huh! There was peace afterwards in that area.

It all still boils down to our failed system where the government who's supposed to clear the streets of mentally challenged people and put them in the psychiatric hospital to be taken care of have decided to turn blind eyes to the situation.

Now, its the innocent citizens that are bearing the brunt of their negligence.
