What a lame excuse...he brought his useless entourage with the Aso rock mannequin virtually flagging off a project they've not approved...a pathetic response to Wike's accusations that he has not attracted any project to his state of origin.

On why the construction of the Port-Harcourt/Maiduguri was yet to commence, Amaechi had this to say: “We have paid the contractors some money and we are ready but we have to really wait until the public procurement department, the Federal Executive Council and the supervising engineers give us approval.

This is why things don't work in Nigeria! So it's Mr president that has to approve purchase of spares for the railway company and not the MD of NRC! This approval might take 10 months to be secured, yet if it were a private company this approval could be secured in 2 days.

Left to me, the NRC should be incorporated as a limited liability company and should be made to survive and pay salaries from its revenue. The article says there has been no salary increase in 10 to 15 years. The question is what work have these staff been doing in that period since Nigeria had zero trains!?

So, if the local contractors are not good enough, it is the Chinese company that is okay with many of the Chinese just being products of vocational training schools and yet, act as superior (or boss) to the locals which degree. Just a sick country.

Amaechi is just one sick fellow.

The product of Chinese vocational training school is better than most Nigerian graduates. Give credit to who credit is due. Go to China and see how the country has been turned around in 50 years.

A serious minister would have ALREADY identified the big contractors in the country who can handle projects of such magnitude.

From the tenders, he would know!

The fact is government have no intention to give local contractors who will be paid in Naira. They’d rather take kick backs in dollars.
The local contractors are worst. You guys always advocate for local contractors that only cares about how to hammer and not deliver a standard job

According to the Minister, “a contractor must have at least five years experience and genuine evidence of work done to be awarded a contract”

The government too isn't different from private sectors that wants you to be 25 years of age before being qualified for employment yet want you to have 6 years working experience.

How would the local contractors have experience and build capacity when you aren't giving them the jobs to do so? What happened to giving them the job with very strict supervision or having them sign a strict agreement that would make them take responsibility for any fault from them as such they would think very well before applying for the contract which would make only the capable hands apply for it.

Mheen! This country na wa ooo!
The one that they gave Distribution of Electricity how are they performing? The problem of Nigeria is the useless citizens

This country will never develop untill Nigerians solve there problems by themselves!.....CCECC engineers are human being,we are human beings too.Nigerian students have beaten them in international competitions on several occasions. If we can beat them in football and music we can beat them in technology too.We should stop feeling inferior unnecessarily. It always pain me that we Nigerians can't just decide to create a better country for ourselves!

As sophisticated Oshodi bus stop interchange is,it was constructed by a local contractor.

It's not a matter of FEELING inferior. We are actually inferior because we do not have the proper structures, resources, processes, governance etc to become superior! There is no magic to national excellence. It takes hard work, dedication, planning, investing properly and many more - none of which we do well in Nigeria as is evidenced by our educational system, health care, infrastructure etc. We have

I am a proud Nigerian, and but I will not allow that to cloud my judgement of what is quality. The Oshodi interchange you reference is okay, but is far from world class construction. If you look at the quality of the metal works that forms the walkway between the terminals and compare with metal works at airports abroad, you will know.

I'm sure you saw the video of the gutter project on Edo state handled by Nigerians! Those are the type of contractors you want to give the job to abi?

Common bricklayer, plastering, Pop ceiling works in lagos now is been done mainly by Togo, Benin people if you want it done well, because Nigerian artisans do shoddy work and charge more. But you say we are not inferior! Until our mindset towards quality changes even at the lowest level, we ain't going anywhere as a nation.

CSTRR:
If Nigerian companies get the technical capacity to build rails, it would be a game changer.

It's good they are starting from maintenance.

Govt needs to ensure adequate tech transfer from their Chinese contract.

In the next decades, China should not be building our rails.

Amaechi and ministry of commerce and industry has work to do on that front.

A nigerian man based in Canada have a company that builds railway he won a contract last year in Iraq don't know why amaechi is not working with him.

The minister rightfully advised you to step up your game and show the world that you are capable of handling life-threatening projects, but instead, you are proving to the world that you are actually incapable and definitely not ready for anything.

As the minister asserted, Nigerian contractors steal pictures of other people's projects to scam their way to contract awards instead of doing the work and show competence.

This is the reason why foreigners are always going to be the main contractors in Nigeria.

Reading the sad and embarrassing comments by Nigerian youths and the usual hatred and bitterness people, not surprising ..

A few days ago, we saw a gentleman pulling asphalt with his hand off a just commissioned road, a sad and criminal endeavour by a Nigerian contractor, something Chinese or other foreign contractors won't do, but trust crooked, lazy and corrupt Nigerians to accept contracts and give you the most horrible and shoddy results in return.

I totally agree with the minister, Nigerians are not ready for anything, sadly.

In China if you are involve in corruption you can be sentenced to death. In Nigeria you steal the entire state money an still work freely and even show off the loot. Wait till we have that kind of laws before you talk about mindset. Most Nigerian contractors are just commission agents. They desire to make profit for doing nothing. We gave our distribution of Electricity to indigenous local companies please tell me what have they achieved? Over 5 years they cannot even distribute a meter...Rubbish!!!.
The problem of Nigerian is the citizens

Most of them will run away once the get mobilization fee or they will do substandard job.
One of the mistakes Rochas made in Imo state was his resolution to award most contacts to imolites who are into construction but today everyone is blaming Rochas for substandard roads in Imo state.
I remember vividly his resolution, especially during his first tenure that he was only going to award contact to only indigenous contractors.
Re: Demonstrate Capacity To Earn Rail Contracts — Amaechi Tells Local Contractors by Exjoker(m): 7:32am On Jul 12, 2021
How do you expect them to gain experience when you have not the environment to work in. Instead of awarding the contract fully to the Chinese, you can actually force to carry out a joint contract with a local firm. This way the will learn and gain the experience to execute contract on their own.

That's why the country has not progressed when you keep looking for the politicians who will steal over 50% of the money rather than give it to genuine and sincere people who will do the right thing. You are also the problem of Nigeria.

Ask yourself why projects handled by private sectors like churches are less expensive than the same ones handled by the government? Is it not the same Nigeria? Or are these churches in another country entirely?

Also, ask yourself how come Redeem did handled a road project at a cost lesser than even the mobilisation fee paid contractor by FG?

Please, does this not show that you are part of the problem with this mindset of yours?
