Several feared dead as soldiers shoot protesting Dangote Sugar Company Staff


Soldiers have reportedly killed seven people in at the Dangote Sugar Company, in Gyawana, Adamawa State owned by Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote.

It was gathered that soldiers opened fire on protesting workers around 5pm on Thursday. The facility situated not too far from the state Capital, Yola, was embroiled in tension as workers protested before the soldiers were deployed to the scene.

According to SaharaReporters, the soldiers despatched for the illegal operation, were hired by the management of the sugar company to chase the protesters away.

The soldiers, who reportedly came to the sugar company in four Toyota Hilux vans, allegedly left their duty post at Numan bridge.

Dangote Sugar company is yet to issue a statement on the issue.
