Dear Igbos,

I have so much I wish to tell you but so little that can be shared.
The Igbo ethnic group is a peculiar one.

One of the 3 major ethnic groups in Nigeria, the igbos are known for a lot of things, both their virtues and vices viz; For their men being industrious, for the beauty of their women, for their cultural pride, for money rituals and also known for Biafra and the aftermath marginalisation in Nigerian politics.

This post was necessitated on the premise that it is painful to continue to see history repeat itself and that everyone has a blindspot that only others can help them see.

It's not news that Igbos contribute immensely to the economy of Nigeria especially in trade and commerce.
This is not to deny that other tribes contribute amply too, however igbos aggressively play a pivotal role in trade and industry be it in Shipping and Transport, Hotel and Bars, Nollywood, Clothing, Church business, Branding, etc.

Their feats and success in trade and commerce is undeniable. Interestingly this success has not reflected in most of the Eastern states.

There is however a repeat pattern that keeps igbos marginalised in the polity.
The Igbos have a compulsive need to feel superior to others.
A compulsive behavioural pattern that pitches the igbos against other ethnic groups.

While every major ethnic group is silently guilty of seeing itself as better than others, with the igbos it is more obvious as it is not handled with tact and wisdom.

And this continues to undermine the igbos from assuming their rightful position in the polity of this nation.

Dear Igbos, learn to respect other tribes and ethnic groups and stop seeing them as inferior.
Your strength in trade and commerce cannot be denied. However, others have their strengths too.
When this mutual respect is established, both the igbos and non-igbos will truly benefit from the synergy and immense growth that has remained only a potential instead of kinetic.
