Polls: Rejection Of E-Transmission May Deter Foreign Investments — Okowa by neztar: 7:49am On Jul 21, 2021
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has warned that the rejection of electronic transmission of election results by the National Assembly through votes of most members of both chambers of the parliament against that clause in the Electoral Act, could deter the country’s effort at attracting Foreign Direct Investments, FDIs.

Okowa, when he received the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, in the state, Monday Udoh-Tom, and his management team on an advocacy visit on Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, said the lawmakers’ action could be interpreted that there was a plan to rig elections.

He, however, commended Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for its efforts at ensuring the credibility of the electoral process and for declaring that it had the capacity to transmit results electronically.

He said: “We must truly appreciate INEC for the fact that on a daily basis they are thinking of the best ways to move our electoral system forward such that we are able to minimise all possibilities of fraud.

“Once Nigerians trust our electoral process, many Nigerians will come out to register and vote during elections. We need to change the narrative of many Nigerians that whether they vote or not, results will still come out the way they want it.

“I want to specially congratulate the INEC Chairman for coming out to insist that INEC has the capacity to ruly transmit election results and I do not see any reason why any Nigerian would want to vote for non-transmission of election results.

“It’s actually very wrong. It gives the people the impression that some people are out to rig elections from day one. It’s not the best for us as a nation and it sends wrong communication.

“It’s not just good for our economy and our image as a nation, because until people learn to trust our electoral processes, it will be difficult for people to come in and do business with us.

“Foreign direct investments cannot come to a nation where they cannot trust our electoral processes. It is doable and possible. We saw it with Edo State election and I believe that the processes and technology being put in place will help to make it work.”

Okowa assured that he would make a broadcast to sensitise the people and various groups in the state, religious leaders and traditional rulers on the ongoing CVR.

He said: “We will do a state broadcast and we will engage various stakeholders in the state to ensure that they mobilise themselves, particularly the young ones, who were not up to the age of registration as at the last time it was done.

“We need to disabuse the minds of Nigerians and the process starts from now to ensure that we now have a credible electoral process.”

Earlier, Udoh-Tom thanked the governor for ensuring the security of INEC’s staff and assets during the attacks on government institutions by gunmen, adding that from July 26, 2021, INEC would deploy physical registration for those who could not register through the online facility.

The government of Buhari doesn't care about foreign investors because they are comfortable with taking loans. Because they have not done anything to encourage foreign investors and they are killing local investors too.

SMH @our clueless leaders.
In this age and time of Hi-Tech + AI they are not prepared to create a viable and dependable infrastructure & policy to ensure the will of the electorates (citizens) is done.
Deep Quote:
Citizens suffer when there is bad leadership in position of authority.

Apart from the foreign investor angle this Governor who is also not competent talks about it is a slap on the face of our leaders that with all the information and tech support available now they are not ready to improve on our electoral process.

Very pathetic lots.

We need young visionary leaders abeg!

There will still find their ways around it and will alter the process to favor their evil agenda... But I. this case... Only one person will be in control of the votes transmission.. The rigging will now be electronically...

Just that, it might not favor the North as their people are not exposed to computer and electronics...

NASS are desperate. They know in a free and fair election, 70% of them won't return there in 2023. But they don't have a choice. The voice of the majority is prevailing. Edo and Ondo templates had proven beyond doubts that e-transmission is the panacea to electoral fraud.

If you like, snatch the whole ballots or divert into a village on the way and employ villagers to engage in thumb-printing spree and later come to collation centres 24 hours later with heavily manipulated results and be citing bad roads or lack of accessibility to means of transportation as the cause of the delay grin

It amazes me the way our desperate politicians behaved last week on this matter...those who mostly kicked against e-transmission were from the north. They cited network issues in remote villages same areas where they often perfect rigging. Imagine borno, a state ravaged by boko haram recording oner 1 million votes and most of those votes came from remote villages. These are the people who would arrive Abuja 24 hours after elections had been concluded and votes counted and be citing lack of transport means to get to abuja. But if you ask same.people to come to abuja to collect money, they'd be there same day.

Senators and reps who are against e-transmission should Bury their heads in shame. Same people always grant channels tv interviews via Skype with Crystal clear video images....you'd see on the top right of the screen where they're speaking from...mostly speaking from their villages and they'd spend 30 good minutes talking without network hitches. They transfer money to their relations during sallah and other festive seasons via various means without hitches from their various villages where they go to celebrate. They even check their mails, read news on their phones. JAMB is being conducted nationwide without recording network hitches. Instead of encouraging inec, they're doing otherwise. It's a matter of time, transparency will be achieved in our electoral systems because that's the only way people's voices can be heard and people can decide genuinely who should lead them.

Okowa is not the person to say this because he is a failure. What has he done to attract investors to Delta state? Is Udom not his mate?
Those who rejected electronic transmission are blockheads but Okowa is worse than all of them put together.
