GOVERNOR Peter Obi has laid the foundation for the N60m Ogbalu Igbo Language School. The institution is located at Prof. Kenneth Dike Central Library, Awka.

The Ceremony also witnessed the inauguration of Committee on Igbo Language headed by Prof. Pita Ejiofor and the presentation of the Law on Igbo language. Obi disclosed that the amount was raised through donation from people.

Speaking at the ceremony, Obi charged all Igbo sons and daughters to speak Igbo to one another as a means of deepening the race�s unity and preserving the language that was at the verge of extinction. "If your brother enter your office, speak Igbo to him", he admonished Igbo top office holders.

On why the school was named after Ogbalu, the Governor said it was time Igbo nation made conscious efforts to rediscover their values by, among others, celebrating role models that lived for the people such as Ogbalu, Prof. Kenneth Dike and prof. Chike Obi did.

The Governor announced a cash donation of N500,000 to Ogbalu�s wife, lady Evelyn who was present at the occasion, which he said was for the good deeds her husband did for the Igbos.

He also said that he would donate a vehicle to the Committee on Igbo language next week and that in three weeks time money would be made available to all the schools in the State to build libraries. He also reiterated the annual cash donation of N200,000, N250,000, and N100,000 to the three best Igbo students in Igbo quiz as well as scholarship to three best students in Igbo language in WAEC.

Earlier, the Deputy Gov. Emeka Sibeudu, who presided at the event before the Governor came in charged Igbo to love their language and those at the Diaspora to teach Igbo to their children.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Committee, Prof. Pita Ejiofor said that with what Gov. Obi did today, that Igbo language had resurrected form dead.

In his vote of thanks, the representative of Ogbalu family, Chief Samuel Ogbalu said that Gov Obi had given more support to the promotion of Igbo language than any other leader in Igbo land and prayed for the fruitfulness of all his efforts.

This is definitely a part of Peter Obi that I like. He's the most Igbocentric governor we've ever had. As far as culture is concerned, he has scored a very high mark.

I don't know about that. . . T.A. Orji for all of his faults is quite Igbocentric that borders on tribalism.

Like I said, culture-wise, Obi is the most Igbocentric governor. Infrastructural development-wise, maybe its between him and Chime.

You mentioned TA Orji cos of his outspokenness towards the violent riots in the North however, I've not seen positive contributions to Abia state culturally and likewise to suggest him. His verbal outburst was just emotional excitement and nothing more. When the chips are down, what has he done culturally and likewise for Ndigbo?

Ohakim even did better by paying for air fares for coppers while Obi also sent ANIDS buses to pick coppers. Where was TA Orji in all of this?
