I Figured It's The Latest Way People Scam Vendors by Pulsenaija: 9:25am On Jul 21, 2021
I didn't want to make this post but I figured it's the latest way people scam vendors so this post is to create awareness. Make other vendors shine their eyes.

On Friday morning, someone inboxed me that she wanted my number cos she wants to buy hair. I gave her my number and she sent a WhatsApp message asking about a particular blend and my account details. I told her it's available, price is 16k, delivery to her house is 1500 and sent my account details like she asked. She disappeared and didn't say anything again.

I thought she wasn't interested and continued gisting with Shugs.

Around 8 pm, she came back and sent me a receipt. She sent me 16k. She didn't send delivery fee. She now said I should make sure it is sent before 12 noon on Saturday.

I was taken aback.

How do you pay for a hair by 8 pm on Friday and demand that you receive it before 12 noon on Saturday? We didn't discuss this. You didn't let me know.

I told her she would get the hair on Monday. Dispatch riders don't work on Sundays and we can't send on Saturday since she paid by 8 pm. She picked offence and started demanding for a refund, insulting me, calling me a scammer.

I asked her to pay her delivery fee. If she had paid delivery fee I go know where to start looking for dispatch by 8 pm. And see if they would agree to pick up and deliver her hair before 12 pm. But she refused. That she'll pay the delivery guy when he comes to deliver the hair.

Wahala. I told her e no go work.

Next she started calling and calling and calling. I was out with Shugs and this lady wouldn't stop calling. She was asking for me to either refund her or send my address so she'd send someone to come and pick on that Saturday.

I wanted to refund makana mkpari akaligo but the whole thing was suspicious. The incessant calls and messages no dey normal. I knew something was amiss but I couldn't place it. I said I'd wait a bit before refunding, that is if I will.

Few minutes later, I opened my app to pay for the stuff me and Shugs bought and I noticed the 16k this lady paid had magically disappeared. This was less than 30 minutes after she paid. Meanwhile she was still demanding for a refund or my house address.

I knew something was amiss but I couldn't place my finger on it so I stopped replying the lady and trying to reason with her.

She was calling, sending messages, insults, etc. Shugs said make I comot eye.

The following day she continued. She wants a refund or my address for a pickup. Messages and calls and messages and calls.

I started calling my bank cos that money was still not in my account. I called and after they called me back.
Guess what?
Just guessigodi

The minute the lady paid that money and I confirmed I received it, she called her bank and flagged it as a wrong transaction and asked them to reverse it. That she was scammed abi she unintentionally paid money into a wrong account.

Cos of this, my bank commot am from my account. Yet she was asking for a refund. Nya I should refund money wey no dey my account again. Money wey she don comot.
Her plan was that she would have her 16k that the bank reversed and I'd still refund her 16k from my own pocket. If I no refund the 16k, she wanted the hair. Na why she dey ask me to send the hair/refund by fire by force that Saturday so she'd still have her 16k and my extra 16k or her 16k and my free hair!!!!

Omooooooooo

The bank told me these scams are mostly done on Friday nights/Saturdays because banks don't work on weekends. You can't complain to anyone and you might not find out till Monday and by that time, the vendor has done the refund or sent the goods.

That would explain why she insisted on getting the hair on Saturday.

I said omooooooooo.

Abeg o. Vendors open eyes o.

Also note that I did not receive any debit alert when she flagged that transaction. No debit alert. The money just magically disappeared. So I for no notice am since I got the credit alert but not the debit alert. I just noticed that that money no dey my account again. Imagine if I didn't notice.

Anyway this lady kept on sending messages upon messages and insults and calls. I got off the phone with my bank and replied her that I know what she did and how she planned to scam me. Till now, she has not replied. Person that was calling back to back. Immediately she found out I knew, not even pim till now. That confirmed my suspicions.

So vendors, na another level be this. Be careful and shine your eyes.
