A thug smashed a bottle over a man's head in a terrifying row over dogs on Saturday as tempers soared during the hottest day of the year.

Shocking footage showed a calm evening on the Thames Path in Greenwich descending into chaos as the altercation escalated into a bloody brawl.

The trouble appeared to start when a large dog pounced on a smaller dog that was passing.

As the dogs bark, a man in a red polo shirt holding a bottle, who had been walking beside the woman with the smaller dog, angrily confronts the owner of the larger dog.
People begin to gather as the men square up to each other, swearing, and the women can be heard trying to explain to onlookers what happened.

While the dogs calm down, the men keep getting angrier and begin pointing in each other's faces. It is not clear whether either of the men knows the women holding the dogs.

Out of nowhere, a man in a red Adidas t-shirt, who appears unsteady on his feet, stumbles into frame and lands a blow on the face of the man in the polo shirt.

Incensed, the punched man raises the bottle he has been holding and lunges towards the bald man in the white t-shirt, who tries to kick him away.

A winch-inducing smash is heard as the bottle comes down on the bald man's head, breaking instantly and sending blood spilling down from his crown.

Shocked onlookers gasp and a few step forward to try to stop the fight from escalating any further as a group of men - including the one in the Adidas top who threw the first punch - try to separate the sparring pair.

The wounded man shouts 'give me the f***ing bottle' as he grabs one from another man and heads towards his attacker.

Meanwhile, woman with the small dog can be seen filming the altercation as she holds her pooch in her arms.

With several people now attempting to calm the fray, the man in the red polo shirt charges towards the man in the Adidas top, who manages to slip away unharmed.

Almost immediately, a bald man in a white t-shirt gets between the two. It is not clear if the man in the white t-shirt knows the owner of the larger dog - a woman in a red and white dress who is standing off to the side.
Then the man in the red polo shirt and the bald man, pursued now by a crowd, inch closer together and appear to be exchanging sharp words before the bald man takes a swipe at the other man.

A chase ensues, with the bald man hitting the man in the red polo shirt with his bloodied hands.

The video ends with the men still scuffling as a woman screams loudly. The bald man, covered in blood from his wound, has been knocked to the ground and is still trying to land blows on his opponent as onlookers move in to try to break up the fight yet again.

The Metropolitan Police said it was aware of the video, but that the incident 'does not appear to have been reported to the police'.

The footage was shared by London & UK Crime on Twitter, where it has been viewed more than 232,500 times.

It was originally posted by an Instagram user with the comment: ' TRIGGER WARNING A day in a life... So I was just out with the lads enjoying the sun and playing around with my new camera when I caught this (no commentary from me)'.

Social media users debated who was at fault but the chaotic scene was impossible to untangle from the footage and left various users blaming the small dog, the large dog, one or both of their owners, the two men and onlookers who became involved.

The fight came on what was the hottest day of the year in both Scotland and Northern Ireland, with 79F recorded in Aberdeen and 80F in Killowen.

The highest temperature anywhere in the UK on Saturday was in Pershore, Worcestershire, where it reached heights of 82.8F - just shy of the year's current record, 85.5F in London's Bushy Park on June 14.

And meteorologists predicted Britain would sizzle even further on Sunday and Monday in particular, but the mercury is likely to remain around the 77F mark for the rest of the month.

The soaring temperatures are created as a result of an extension of the Azores high - an African plume of heat that is making its way across Europe over the coming days.

Heatwave thresholds vary by area but are likely to be met in parts of Northern Ireland, southern and eastern Scotland, then increasingly across England and Wales.

It is the latest chapter in Britain's rollercoaster year of weather, with April being the sunniest on record, swiftly followed by the wettest May for 50 years.
