The government of Tafawa Balewa constructed a 640km rail line from Bauchi to Maiduguri for £19m in 1964. The government of Buhari awarded a 287km rail line from Kano in Nigeria to Maradi in Niger for £1.37b in 2021. Agreed costs had gone up between 1964 and 2021. But why such astronomical increase?
