5 Things To Learn From Chelsea’s Win Against AFC Bournemouth by ochuski(m): 10:35am On Jul 28, 2021
At the Vitality Stadium, Thomas Tuchel's squad won their pre-season match against Scott Parker's Bournemouth. Neither team threatened to test the keepers in the opening half. For both teams, Tammy Abraham and Dominc Solanke came close. Both teams made numerous substitutions in the second half. In the 66th minute, Emiliano Marcondes gave Bournemouth the lead. Armando Broja equalized for the Blues just six minutes later. For Thomas Tuchel's team, Ike Ugbo scored the game-winning goal in the 77th minute.

Here are five things we can learn from Chelsea's win against Bournemouth:

1. Armando Broja is a name to keep an eye on:

Thomas Tuchel started Tammy Abraham upfront in the pre-season match against Bournemouth. Another youngster, however, made an impression on the Blues. Many Chelsea supporters were impressed by Albanian international Armando Broja. Broja was eager to get involved in the game right away after coming off the bench. His ability to hold up the ball and press the Bournemouth backline was unrivaled. To top it off, Armando scored the equalizer for the Blues, capping off a strong showing from the youthful attacker.

2. For Callum Hudson-Odoi, it's now or never:
All eyes were on Callum Hudson-Odoi heading into the match against Bournemouth. Chelsea supporters have always had high expectations for the youthful winger. Hudson-passion Odoi's and determination in training, according to reports, has impressed Tuchel. Callum was one of the Blues' standout performers in the match against Bournemouth. Callum posed a serious threat in the future. Hudson-Odoi was constantly eager to beat his man and produce the game-winning goal. When it comes to Hudson-future, Odoi's it's safe to say he'll be a significant part of Thomas' plans this season.

3. An opportunity for the periphery players to shine

It's usually a great time for out-of-favor players to come in and show what they're made of during pre-season. Tuchel's team featured Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Baba Rahman, and Ross Barkley in tonight's encounter. With Gilmour's departure, there may be an opportunity for one of Loftus-Cheek or Barkley to step in and play for the Blues. Rahman was a menace down the left-wing when he came on in the second half, and he assisted on the Blues' equalizer.

4. Conor Gallagher might require another loan period.

Conor Gallagher was the focus of attention in the build-up to the game, as Blues fans hoped to see the young midfielder perform. Gallagher was a bright spot in Chelsea's midfield, especially in the first half. The youngster was ready to take the next step forward and assist his teammates, as well as cover the backline. However, the kid was exposed at times in the second half. That was merely due to the fact that Gallagher was the deepest midfielder and had no other midfielders to assist him. Gallagher, on the other hand, appears to require another loan spell away from the club simply to gain additional playing time.

5. Will there be a formation change this season?

Tuchel has had the summer to work out what is best for his team moving ahead, given this is his first full season in command. It was rumored that the Blues switched from 3-4-3 to 4-2-4 in the second part of their game against Peterborough. Chelsea started the game with a 3-4-3 formation but finished with a 3-5-2 formation. It'll be intriguing to see what Tuchel does with the team moving ahead, as it's clear that he'll want to go into the season with a plan A through plan Z.
