This is a very poor decision from LMC. Jigawa stars know the said player is ineligible because of the 5 yellow cards, but because they didn't get an official letter from LMC, they feigned ignorance and went ahead to field the player.
Now LMC has let Jigawa stars off the hook because of their own incompetence, saying they didn't send an official letter to Jigawa stars. How dumber can these guys get??... That's why Nigerian league has no integrity. One of the least respected leagues in Africa...
I even thought it's the duty of the technical crew of a team anywhere in the world to know if their players are eligible to fielded for a match or not.
So I'm amazed by the LMC for this ugly thought out response

LMC should review their laws. Clubs should not wait for LMC to inform them about a players ineligibility, Clubs should know. Modern clubs have statistics unit which keeps disciplinary records of players and the rest.

What a shity league. It just shows the level of tribalism In this country . Everything is North Vs South. Shiithole country , highly corrupt in every sector

Tribalism doesn't come in here. Few seasons ago Enyimba excaped punishment for fielding an ineligible player. The clubs have a way of bending the laws, I mean they just need to prove that they didn't see any letter from LMC. The laws should be amended, clubs should know who is eligible to play for them not waiting for a letter from LMC.

There was an official official letter sent see attachment

What they are noe claiming is that why didn't Rivers united inform Jigawa that they are about using an ineligible player

2. That the letter was sent in error instead of 5 yellow card that said it only 3 now

Haba when Nigeria played Algeria before th last world cup .... Nigeria used an ineligible defender... After playing 1-1

CAF did the needful by awarding the victory to Algeria and deducted 3 points from Nigeria. The only saving grace for Nigeria is that we have amassed enough point to qualify already

So why can't league be transparent.... With this no sponsor can take us serous

What were they protesting about in the first place?

This is the fact about the protest

Rivers United Football Club has officially petitioned the League Management Company (LMC) over the use of an ineligible player in the club’s matchday 34 encounter with Jigawa Golden Stars in Kaduna, according to the Rivers Commissioner for Sports Boma Iyaye.

Jigawa Golden Stars had featured one Christopher Richard in the NPFL fixture despite being informed by the LMC prior to the encounter that he was not eligible to play having accumulated five yellow cards.

According to LMC guidelines for the league, “if it is established that, a team intentionally featured a player who had earlier received five (5) yellow cards or red card before the match in question, the affected team will lose three points three goals to its opponent.”

Iyaye, who stated this at the side-line of Rivers United match against FC Ifeanyi Ubah in Port Harcourt, called on the LMC to do justice to the petition to further restore clubs, administrators and football fans’ confidence in the league.

“This is a straight forward issue that requires no long stories. The LMC is well aware of the case in question and even wrote the club, informing them of the player’s ineligibility, but Jigawa still went ahead and used him.

“We do not want to believe that the LMC will allow its image to be rubbished over a matter that is so easy to judge and sanction. As a club, Rivers United has played by the rule book and we expect same to apply in this case.

“The NPFL season is running smoothly; the LMC should not mar its own achievements by inviting unnecessary backlash from various football stakeholders within and outside Nigeria,” he stated.
