The Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, Prof Moji Adeyeye on Sunday decried the incessant rejection of food and agricultural commodities from Nigeria by the United States of America USA and the European Union member countries over what she described as “poor quality”. Adeyeye in a press statement on Quality and Safety of Export Food Trade made available to Vanguard, urged all the regulatory agencies at the port saddled with the responsibility of ensuring high quality of imports and exports to find urgent and lasting solutions to Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) Border Rejection Notifications from the European Commission on products originating from Nigeria. Adeyeye lamented the resultant bad image the repeated rejection of commodities from Nigeria by the EU has caused the country. L Mikecold: Many people jumped into export business without knowing about international regulations. Asians, Middle East and African countries except for South Africa hardly certifies food and forest products coming into those country. However, USA has FDA, Eu has EUTR, Australia has Illegal Harvested Forest Products Standard, Japan also have theirs. You can export food or forest products in bulk into those countries without paying their own certification process. Most Nigerians just dabble into export without deep knowledge while most of their so call buyers hardly understands import standards. At the end, it will be rejected at destination and not allowed entry. Now instead of those Nigerians to still understands, they cry foul and still blame their government. Yes, their government has the largest share for not meeting up with international standard but they also needs to be sensitized. ANAFDAC & SON certification are not enough. You are alo requested to show some due diligence. I won't say much. Good day |

Truly most of these food stuffs cannot get pass mark from me if I conduct test analysis on them. All the phases are so corrupt and the result are so poor. Na only God dey save us. Lot of bribery from inspection officers in some cases of foods. Imagine legitimate inspection officer will av to hire someone to go inspect food processing, access quality control log etc while he is gallivating about doing other businesses. |
