Espanyol player threatens to "batter" a Barça player.


A fiery La Liga tie between Espanyol and Barcelona was followed up with a second instalment in the Copa del Rey at Camp Nou on Wednesday.

Both games were filled with tension, with the rules pushed to the limit and with two referees who struggled to control proceedings.

And that’s the big problem. The ineptitude of the officials has allowed the tension between the players to increase.

At Camp Nou there was a little of everything: tough play, pushes, blows, insults…

It was an extremely tense game, with the tension running over from Saturday. And that tension followed the players into the tunnel and the dressing rooms.

According to Catalunya Radio journalist Marta Carreras, an Espanyol player was heard shouting at a Barça player.

“I’m going to batter you,” was the shout which was heard, although it’s not clear which Espanyol player said it and at which Barça player it was aimed, for now.

Also, according to Carreras, there were also pushes and blows to the dressing room door, with Luis Enrique coming out to calm things down.
