These are not normal times for Bekee  Anyalewechi, the  Abia State, Nigeria-  born editor-in-chief of The  Neighbourhood, a Port Harcourt-based provincial   newspaper. Is not unto a week when suspected militia of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) started   threatening to eliminate the courageous and enterprising journalist over a story his paper had carried in its front page.

The paper in its banner headline special report  runs, “ How April 26  Election  Was Rigged  in Rivers State- Obio/Akpor, Eleme, Okrika, Ahoada East, Gokana, Degema  Worst Affected –Court Actions Resume Soon “. May 6, page 2, 5. No sooner had the paper hits the newsstand than threatening   calls started streaming in, to devour the vulnerable writer.

The  threats from Rivers State  had  barely evaporated  when  gory and  irrational gangs  allegedly  loyal to Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio, the governor of Akwa  Ibom  had  threatened  to gun him down,   another story  in the Anyalewechi’s tabloid, “  How  Governor Akpabio Recruited Cultists from Rivers State  for Governorship Election in Akwa Ibom “, The  Neighbourhood , May 13, 2011, page 10. According to the local newspaper, Sunny Ishiba, an infamous armourer  to  Soboma George, the  murdered  leader  of the Outlaws, a notorious  secret and violent gang, was rented by Akpabio  and drafted into   the  Ikot Ekpene axis of Akpabio’s state where  the roving gangster  who accepted  the Federal Government presidential amnesty invaded Ikot Umuoessien, one of the Annang communities  and killed 5 persons on the eve of the election.


Ishiba, who had abandoned his private residence the Borokiri area, south of Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital currently   resides in government house in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state capital . The  well-known  cultist  who is s  in his mid 30s  had  instructed  his hit men to get rid of  the  journalist  Bekee  Anyawechi The  Sahara reporters  investigations revealed.  Sunday  Umoren, the Akwa Ibom reporter of the weekly  is also  targeted for death  by the Akpabio’s  murderous squad.

I want to assure you that you people cannot do anything to that journalist. He is my good friend and i like his courage in speaking out against evil and there is nothing you and your cohorts cannot do anything to him. This is not the first time he is speaking out against evil politicians. God will definitely judge u wicked men.

God will keep that journalist from people like dt cus hes doing humanity a great good.
