Ok. But under IBB, did we have terrorism, banditry and all kinds of insecurity killing hundreds of thousands of Nigerians and displacing millions from their homes into unpalatable IDP camps? Did Nigeria ranked among the top 10 poorest countries in tbe world? How much were foodstuffs and basic commodity items etc? Was killings unarmed protesters a norm under IBB govt? How about infrastructural development and govt service delivery to the masses like public education, were Federal and State universities affordable for the poor in society? If we look at all these various indices factually without bias and prejudice, it is clear that IBB can never be correctly said to be the worst leader in Nigeria's history. He is far from the best, but he is also far from the worst. Corruption under IBB is minor compared to the corruption we are seeing under "Democracy"

You must understand that the Nigeria of the 80s and 90s during the IBB regime is different from what we have now. There was no Insurgency at time. Infact Babaginda could have done better with the oil boom during the gulf war. And you must know that some of his bad policies culminated into the messy Nigeria we have today.

Please that's not true. Not all of them were bad leaders. Some were good, though could have been better but at least they helped to develop Nigeria and build a good economy. There were leaders under whose govt and rule Nigeria naira was 1 Nigerian pound = £1 and I think 20 shillings = $1, a time when "naira" had more value than dollar.

Maria had more value than dollar simply because we had a high enough oil price to earn enough forex to buffer our economy and also because we did far more domestic production than we do

Venezuela too used to have that kind of economy. At one time it was as prosperous if not more than the USA. It was so prosperous that people were emigrating there from Europe! Then in the 1980s the oil price fell below their sustenance level

At the end of the day countries that have strong currencies have enough domestic industrial production and export a lot of industrial goods and services. Naija is just a one trick pony

That's completely false. There was no oil discovery in Nigeria until 1963. Our economy during the 20's - 50's, "naira" (Nigerian currency tender) had most value it ever had in history. There was a steady gradual decline in our economic strength post-oil era.

Please let's not make unrelated excuses of time or era for bad government and terrible leaders. UAE in the 70's compared to UAE now, they have witnessed unprecedented growth, development and national prosperity for their country and citizens.

This thread is a plot by PDP to deny Buhari of the only thing he has ever achieved

The destroyer of Project Nigeria

It is malicious to compare others with Buhari because he took failure to a total new level.

An economy Buhari cannot destroy cannot exist

The economy and security of China, Germany, Norway, UK, USA etc joined together will be destroyed by Buhari in less than 3 months to be modest.

Failure medal should be given to him.

Oil was discovered at Oloibiri in 1956.

The Naira was introduced in 1973, before then we used the Nigerian Pound, shilling and pence.

Our economy has always rested on a tenuous relationship with the price of whatever raw material we sell...which is kind of my point. That the economy declined has more to do with growing forex needs outstripping the amount of forex we earn.
