World Athletics U-20 Championship: Nigeria Finishes Third, Breaks All Previous Championship Records.

Nigeria's contingent to the World Athletics U-20 Championship has finished third on the medals table only behind Kenya and Finland, surpassing all previous records in the history of the Championship.

The gold rush was heralded by Nigeria’s mixed 4×400m relay team while Imaobong Nse Uko(400m women) and Udodi Onwuzurike(200m men) also clinched Gold in the finals of their events in a grand style, with Team Nigeria winning more medals in men and women relay on the final day. Nigeria ended up with 4 Gold and 3 bronze medals respectively.

It is pertinent to note that Team Nigeria broke all records from personal bests to championship records and it is not unconnected to the support received from the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development under the able leadership of Honourable Minister, Sunday Dare.

Nigeria stands proud of the achievement of her gallant contingent, who finished third out of 115 countries. A cash prize of $5000 would be received by the Gold medalists, while $2000 will be awarded to Bronze medalists.

It would have been big kudos if these athletes were really underaged, they would have been big potential future sportsmen for Nigeria. Unfortunately, Nigeria is very dominant in under-age competitions because of age-cheat. When it comes to adult-versus adult competitions, Nigeria is always nowhere to be found.
