Moshood Abiola Turns 84 Today

Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, also known as M. K. O. Abiola GCFR (24 August 1937 – 7 July 1998) was a Nigerian businessman, publisher, politician and aristocrat of the Egba clan. He was the Aare Ona Kankafo XIV of Yorubaland.

MKO Abiola ran for the presidency in 1993, for which the election results were annulled by the preceding military president Ibrahim Babangida because of allegations that they were corrupt and unfair. Abiola was awarded the GCFR posthumously on 6 June 2018 by President Muhammadu Buhari and Nigeria's democracy day was changed to June 12.

Abiola was a personal friend of Babangida and he is believed to have supported Babangida's coming to power.

Abiola's support in the June 1993 presidential election cut across geo-political zones and religious divisions, among a few politicians to accomplish such a spread during his time. By the time of his death, he had become an unexpected symbol of democracy.

Imprisonment
In 1994 Moshood Abiola declared himself the lawful president of Nigeria in the Epetedo area of Lagos island, an area mainly populated by (Yoruba) Lagos Indigenes. He had recently returned from a trip to win the support of the international community for his mandate. After declaring himself president he was declared wanted and was accused of treason and arrested on the orders of military President General Sani Abacha, who sent 200 police vehicles to bring him into custody. MKO Abiola has been referred to as Nigeria's greatest statesman. His second wife Alhaja Kudirat Abiola was assassinated in Lagos in 1996 after declaring public support for her husband.

Moshood Abiola was detained for four years, largely in solitary confinement with a Bible, Qur'an, and fourteen guards as companions. During that time, Pope John Paul II, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and human rights activists from all over the world lobbied the Nigerian government for his release. The sole condition attached to the release of Chief Abiola was that he renounce his mandate, something that he refused to do, although the military government offered to compensate him and refund his extensive election expenses. For this reason Chief Abiola became extremely troubled when Kofi Annan and Emeka Anyaoku reported to the world that he had agreed to renounce his mandate after they met with him to tell him that the world would not recognise a five-year-old election.

Personal life
Moshood Abiola married many wives; notable among them are Simibiat Atinuke Shoaga in 1960, Kudirat Olayinka Adeyemi in 1973, Adebisi Olawunmi Oshin in 1974, Doyinsola (Doyin) Abiola Aboaba in 1981, Modupe Onitiri-Abiola and Remi Abiola. He fathered many children.

Death
Abiola died in suspicious circumstances shortly after the death of General Abacha, on the day that he was due to be released, 7 July 1998. While the official autopsy stated that Abiola died of natural causes, Abacha's Chief Security Officer, al-Mustapha has alleged that Moshood Abiola was in fact beaten to death. Al-Mustapha, who was detained by the Nigerian government, but later released, claims to have video and audiotapes showing how Abiola was beaten to death. The final autopsy report, which was produced by a group of international coroners has never been publicly released. Regardless of the exact circumstances of his death, it is clear that Chief Abiola received insufficient medical attention for his existing health conditions.

As recounted at the time in a BBC interview with special envoy Thomas R. Pickering, an American delegation which included Susan Rice visited Abiola; during their meeting with him, Abiola fell ill,[49] with what was presumed to be a heart attack which caused his death.

His shipping theme, Hope '93 was lost for every Nigerian

Hope for a country devoid of security threat was lost
Hope for leaders free of oppression was lost
Hope of waking up one day to a Nigeria we all want was lost
Hope of common Nigerians to freedom of speech was lost
Hope of our electoral power to enthrone or dethroned was lost

The Hope were lost and have never returned
Good morning Nigeria

And just like how MKO Abiola was involved in bringing IBB to power hoping inturn IBB will handover to him but instead it went to Abacha.

Bola Ahmed was instrumental in ushering Maj Gen Buhari into Democratic power hoping that inturn Power will be passed down to the Jagaban.

Are we seeing some similarities?

Power is only Transient.

The story here is the reason we say General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida is the worst enemy of Nigeria. This is where he betrayed Nigerians. This electon till date is the most successful and cleanest we have had in the history of Nigeria.

But I dont pity MKO himself. He had sponsored the military boys to topple different government via coups. They knew they were not going let him rule, they deceived him, and he fell for it, and died in it. All they needed were his money to topple govt they do not agree with. Military boys used him and dumped him when he felt ge was using them. Foo.lish man.

Well, can you see why the likes of Bode George should be stoned? Can you see why Tinubu is still beating George back to back? Cos George's head no correct and till he goes to his grave, his head will never be correct. The likes of George are the ones who deceive IBB. Of course, IBB made him a military governor too and he looted very well. Go and listen to ex governor Fayose (an ex son of George) the way he blasts this old fo.ol called George. He should have been left in the dungeon OBJ arranged for him cos OBJ knew how wicked and crafty that man is. And OBJ had to put him away. Very crafty man working with atiku behind the scene and was laughing with OBJ publicly. He felt OBJ didnt know.

I dont like Tinubu, but if I have to choose, I would rather choose him over this George. This George is a leprosy. Ask him the development he did while he was a military governor and compare with what Tinubu did in Lagos as an elected governor. He fought Tinubu many times and he keeps getting beating till date. This George? A real definition of failure with his useless Jimi Agbaje. Rubbish.

See, the likes of this George cannot have mouth, and even Tinubu himself cannot take us a long ride in Lagos like this if Funsho Williams was not assassinated. Oh! Funsho! May his soul continue to rest in perfect peace. At times I wonder how God allows good people to be assassinated. Not the kind of person like Funsho Williams should be strangulated. Imagine...strangulated like Bola Ige. Wicked people are many in this Nigeria.

Here is the link where George said IBB wilk be welcome in South West:
https://independent.ng/ibbii-be-welcomed-with-open-hands-if-he-visits-south-west-today-bode-george/

Can you see that those old enemies of Nigeria are still active? We need to work against these old people. Even IBB without legs still want to start talking again. See eh...better we continue with Buhari than have George and IBB again. These are the top enemies of Nigeria. See...as much as I dislike and I want Buhari out of that Aso rock (Buhari is a serial failure who is making these people have mouth...even allowed Jonathan to have mouth too), do not be tricked into accepting people like IBB and George. And never accept Jonathan again too.

Rather, I will vote OBJ again and again. I swear. If old people will continue ruling us cos youths no get sense, let's go for OBJ again. Obasanjo should be.

But if we want a younger man that these expired wicked men who is still OK who I believe will tear down these people and Tinubu himself will be shocked, we better put Osinbajo there. He is the best shot as I am seeing it.

Is it Orji Kalu the errand boy of IBB? Saraki is a player too...look at him running after IBB too. Ameachi...that one? That one that cannot even tame Wike in his state? But see...just one month presidential power given to Osinabjo, he rooted out that powerful DSS idiotaa boss. He went to Delta to settle issues. He put the country forward economically. But useless Buhari returned and started persecuting Professor Osinbajo.

This is not an issue of ethnic here. The only shot we have to move forward is Vice President professor Osinbajo to become the president in 2023. This is the only way forward. This I know after studying the whole issue.

Everyone will benefit from it. Tech guys should really support this man. He is the one who is there making Buhari and his gangs to listen to us. He is working with Silicon Valley to bring us more goodies. He is the one holding Pantami's balls ....I believe that one would have destroyed our NIN process and other digital projects, or even expose us more to terrorists.

Again, he has shown not to be partial. He can unite SE, SS and SW. And the North has no choice cos he knw how to settle dispute. He was the brain Tinubu used to tackle Obasanjo and other political opponents. He is a boss to many of these people. See, let's vote for Osinbajo.
