Obasanjo Mourns Aguiyi Ironsi Wife, Olurin by Ademola47(m): 9:27pm On Aug 25
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed shock over the death of the wife of the first Nigerian military Head of State, Mrs Victoria Aguiyi-Ironsi, and former military administrator of old Oyo and Ekiti states, General Adetunji Olurin (retd.) .

Obasanjo described Aguyi-Ironsi as one who left a good legacy for her family and the entire Umuahia community of Abia State.

Obasanjo was also said to have paid a condolence visit to the wife and children of Olurin at Parkview, Ikoyi Lagos.

While Victoria Aguiyi-Ironsi died on Monday in Abia State at 97 years, Olurin died on Saturday in Lagos at the age of 76.

In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo said the death of “Mrs Aguiyi-Ironsi is a big loss, not only to her immediate Aguiyi-Ironsi family, the entire Umuahia community in Abia State and country, but also to those close to her.”

The former President described Olurin as one of the patriotic Nigerians that served his country diligently and faithfully.

He said Olurin’s dexterity and successful performance while in service resulted in the appointments both as military administrator and ECOMOG field Commander respectively.
