Partial Access On Twitter Restored by Nemere2020: 8:50am On Sep 02, 2021
There were indications on Wednesday that Nigerians may now have partial access to Twitter.

Checks by our correspondents showed that as of Wednesday night, access to the microblogging site had been restored through computer systems. However, trials via the mobile phone were not successful.

The Federal Government had on June 4 announced the indefinite suspension of the operations of the microblogging and social networking platform in the country, days after Twitter deleted a tweet by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), which it said violated its rules.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, had cited ‘the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence’ as the reason for the suspension.

A top official of the Ministry of Information who spoke to one of our correspondents on condition of anonymity said there had been agreement in principle for lifting of on the site.

Attempts to speak Mohammed on Wednesday proved abortive as it was learnt that the minister was away to Cape Verde where he was attending the World Tourism Conference.

The President, Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria, Ikechukwu Nnamani, when contacted said that he was not aware of the lifting of the ban.

He said there had been no communication with the telcos as related to lifting the ban.

Meanwhile, Twitter on Wednesday launched a feature to tackle abuse and trolling, which had become major issues for the platform.

The company said this on its platform.

As the company is under increasing pressure to protect its users from online abuse globally, the new feature is expected to automatically block hate speech.

There is this shame that comes with realizing your unimportant in the grand scheme.

Twitter just showed Gen. Failure that he has no importance.

All the idiots that left Twitter for Koo, have all run back (shamefully).

Twitter is still thriving. Tweets still go viral. Discussions are still bigger.

Shame. Shame. Shame. Shame!!!!

I love it when media use the right word - suspend. I'm beginning to like punch. If it is the like of Saharareportersdotcom, IgbereTV, and their likes, it is 'ban' they will use. It is the activity of Twitter as a company that was suspended and not individual access to Twitter.

Twitter is not a non-profit. It needs ad revenue and the VPN crews and terror groups officially declared as terrorists organisations like Boko Haram, Iswap, IPOB etc are not the ad paying category.

My hypothesis is that there's a likely negative correlation between the improvements in our GDP and the suspension of Twitter( as Twitter influence decrease, our GDP grew within same period ). What are the likely reasons for this negative correlation? Those talented but lazy citizens who idly do gbosgbas, use obscenely uncouth words on Twitter that they don't use in their real life and live dual duplicitous personality life from morning to night reduced as they now have to do real productive work with their talents and use less of their bad character they exhibit when cowardly hiding behind the anonymity of Twitter to exhibit their poor upbringing .
Secondly, economic activities are back to places like the SE where Twitter is being used to rally the base of violent elements and thirdly, the huge capital flight repatration via the expenditure of non- VAT paying ad revenue to Twitter by Nigerians and Nigerian corporates stopped and such funds was conserved and invested in the country to improve our aggregate output during this period of the suspension of Twitter.

So before the full restoration of Twitter, FG should take stock of the success recorded and use if in evaluation of the how Twitter impacts our national security, economy and productivity. Full gown adult spending morning to night on Twitter from January to December without a known job or career is not full realization of potential.

Those who pay heavy for Twitter ads like banks etc do not use VPN and can't do VPN to run ad on Twitter until the suspension is reversed. Those on VPN just gave a bazaar of data to the VPN platforms because once Twitter is fully back, they don't need VPN again yet they can't retrieve their data or stop the VPN platforms from using their data for commercial and even criminal purposes. That's the price they will pay for their hatred and bigotry.

The good news is that Twitter must come and register with CAC here in Nigeria, have a physical office in Nigeria, hire our teeming youths and pay annual corporate tax to Nigeria..

Anything short of this is academic. God bless Nigeria. All the enemies of Nigeria will lose las las. They always lose.
May God bless Nigeria

as an individual, if you can't gain access to the platform without using VPN, your individual access has touched too.

No Twitter representative ever come here to beg them, rather mr. Lai was sneaking abroad to beg Twitter. Twitter did well to pull down the mannequin's genocidal tweet.
Very backward thinking jihadist govt.
