How to Download Photos from Google Photos First, make sure the Google Photos app is installed on your smartphone. If it isn’t already installed, go to the Google Play/App Store and install it. To use the app, tap its icon after it has been downloaded and installed. If you’re asked to log in, do so with your Google credentials. Find and choose the photo or video you want to save in Google Photos. Then, from the menu, hit the three-dot icon and select Save to device or Download.
