Earlier, the Nigeria-led Government had condemned the coup, calling for the reinstatement of Guinea's first democratically-elected President, Conde.

I am personally following the situation in Guinea very closely. I strongly condemn any takeover of the government by force of the gun and call for the immediate release of President Alpha Conde.

UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres

The current President of the African Union HE Félix Tshisekedi and the Chairman of the African Union Commission HE Moussa Faki Mahamat condemn any seizure of power by force and call for the immediate release of President Alpha Conde.

We invite the Peace and Security Council of the African Union to meet urgently to examine the new situation in Guinea and to take the appropriate measures in the circumstances.

We condemn and express our deep concern on the coup attempt in the Republic of Guinea and the detention of President Alpha Condé on 5 September 2021.

Turkey is against all attempts aiming to topple elected Governments by illegal means.

We strongly expect the prompt restoration of constitutional order in the friendly and brotherly Republic of Guinea, and the immediate release of President Alpha Condé.

Turkey will stand by the friendly and brotherly Republic of Guinea in this difficult and fragile period.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Turkey

On the Military Seizure of Power in Guinea

The United States condemns today’s events in Conakry.

Violence and any extra-constitutional measures will only erode Guinea’s prospects for peace, stability, and prosperity. These actions could limit the ability of the United States and Guinea’s other international partners to support the country as it navigates a path toward national unity and a brighter future for the Guinean people.

We urge all parties to forego violence and any efforts not supported by the Constitution and stand by the rule of law. We reiterate our encouragement of a process of national dialogue to address concerns sustainably and transparently to enable a peaceful and democratic way forward for Guinea to realize its full potential.

US State Department Spokesperson, Ned Price

I strongly condemn the coup d'etat in the Republic of Guinea. I call for calm and a return to constitutional order

Burundi President, Évariste Ndayishimiye

FIFA reschedules the Guinea-Morocco match

The current political and security situation in Guinea is quite volatile and is being closely monitored by FIFA and CAF. To ensure the safety and security of all players and to protect all match officials, FIFA and CAF have decided to postpone the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifying match Guinea vs. Morocco, which had scheduled to be hosted in Conakry, Guinea, on Monday 6 September.

Rescheduling information will be made available at a later date.

Mamady Doumbouya was a corporal in the Foreign Legion in France before Alpha Conde appointed him battalion commander when he returned to his native country in 2018.

A year later, in 2019, Doumbouya was promoted to the rank of lieutenant-colonel and then promoted to colonel in 2020.

After the military high command gave Conde lukewarm support in his bid for a third term, he purged the presidential guard and create a group of special forces that Doumbouya was posted to, who were loyal and well-equipped to him.

He is 41 years old.

"The president is with us. He is in a safe place. He has already seen a doctor," he said. "We hold all of Conakry and we are with all the defense and security forces to finally put an end to the Guinean evil," he continued.

The putschists also announced the establishment of a curfew throughout the country "until further notice" as well as the replacement of governors and prefects by soldiers in the regions. In addition, they called on "the officials to resume work on Monday" and summoned the outgoing ministers and the presidents of the institutions to a meeting Monday at 11 am (local and GMT), under penalty of being considered as "rebellious. against the CNRD [National Committee for Rally and Development] ".

They will be quick to condemn, but they won't condemn bad governance in those affected countries, only one man wants to rule forever, so he is the only born to rule man in Guinea.

I don't know if to join them in condemnation cos the man is way too old, the country was on auto pilot and I'm sure the citizens are happy about it. If same were to happen here, I will welcome the development cos any option is better than that lifeless thing currently occupying that seat. At least to take over things temporarily and then hand over back to democracy. What a breath of fresh air that will be..
