This is sad and unfortunate for a disease which is treatable.
Since Cholera spreads through contaminated food and water, this is my advice to those who live in the affected areas:
1. Stop buying cooked food. Cook your food by yourself.
2. Don't trust sachet water (pure water). Just boil your water before you drink. Even some bottled water are not clean.
3. Please, please, please, stop buying already opened/sliced water melon and pineapple. If you see the way flies perches on them before they are wrapped, you will puke. Most of the people selling them are dirty. Not only aboki.
4. If you buy apples or other fruits and vegetables, wash them with salty water before you consume.
5. If you are passing out a loose stool especially that one that will form something like rice on top (rice-water stool), rush to the hospital.
6. If you don't have the strength to go to the hospital before help comes, prepare an Oral Rehydration Solution using clean water, salt and sugar and be drinking little by little.
7. Above all, personal hygiene is very important.
8. When you defecate openly in an uncompleted building next to your house, the house flies around would bring back your shit and drop it on your already served food. Therefore, keep your environment clean. Protect yourself and protect those around you.
9. If you abide by the rules up there, be prayerful because village people may have a surprise for you .
Cholera is fatal if left untreated.

Cholera is a bacterial infection and Tetracycline is one antibiotic that can contain it especially at the early stages. @bolded I can't say, it's better you seek opinion from a medical personnel before giving to children. Tetracycline is a very powerful antibiotic, not recommended for children except in severe cases.
