Taxation Of Social Media And Online Business by VGSocial: 3:45pm On Sep 08, 2021
The Federal Tax Agency seeks the approval of the National Assembly to further amend the Finance Act to widen its tax net profile to cover social media activities and online businesses on social media. If this is approved, the body gets to tax individuals and companies that conduct their business through social media.

African countries that currently have social media tax imposition on their citizens are Zambia, Benin and Uganda. The taxes cover the daily use of social media in these countries.

The detriment of this move is that the approval will make life harder for the already struggling Nigerians.

Conversely, the taxation of social media will generate more revenue for the country.
