Because we are Lions...

Having Lion as the school's mascot has helped in instilling the spirit of discipline, strength to excel, and pride on the graduates and undergraduates of the great citadel.

The mascot has equally helped in 'Restoring the Dignity of Man' as the motto of the school says, that's why her graduates are amongst those calling the shorts in the country and world over in all spheres of life (not just politics like some schools see as their ultimate echelon for their graduate success). The latest being the current Deputy Secretary of World Health Organizations (WHO) and former DG of NCDC.

Our campus is equally called a den, where Lions live.

Lions and Lionesses!!
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!! (Roaring as response to the greeting above).

For the same reason the Nigerian football team is called the super eagles. That's the animal that embodies the personality they'd like to identify with.
