Why DSS must go after Sheikh Gumi the way it did with Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho.

To show fairness and justice, Sheikh Gumi, an Islamic scholar, should be prosecuted by the DSS in the same way that Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday were death with. Enough is enough. The Kaduna-based preacher cannot be trusted any longer, and the federal government should consider summoning him for a full and proper investigation.

Gumi has been the talk of the town because of his purported links to terrorists that are terrorizing the country’s northern region. On multiple occasions, the Islamic preacher has been seen on radio and television conversing and negotiating with terrorists.

The federal government’s silence demonstrates that it is not prepared to combat the insecurity that has plagued the country, particularly in the north. I’m not suggesting that they should arrest him. However, he should be warned about his dealings with criminals and terrorists. No reasonable country would allow Sheikh Gumi to do what he is doing with terrorists.

According to The Cable, Gumi have the guts to assert that “bandits have devised means to escape air strikes”. This effectively demonstrates that he is highly linked to these criminals, as well as encouraging them to conduct all manner of horrific crimes against Nigerians.

This is something that should be condemned. And the federal government must act now the way it did with Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho. No one is above the law, not even Sheikh Gumi and his accomplices.

The frequent attacks on government institutions and places of learning have not been able to put a stop to the insecurity that has been ravaging the country for some time. The north have experienced tremendous rise in kidnapping, banditry and other attacks aimed at school children. The criminals have turned it into a business venture, allowing them to commit crimes and get away with it.

Gumi’s counterproductive statements about bandits should not be taken likely. He should be queried extensively about these criminals and their sponsors. With the heightening security challenges in the country, people like Gumi should not be allowed to continue making provocative statements about bandits and also seeking amnesty for them.
