Senator Ubah: What Should Be Done As IPOB Insists Anambra Governorship Election Won’t Hold (Video)

The candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the Anambra State Governorship election has advised governors in the South-East region to dialogue with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) members because there will be trouble if IPOB insists that the November 6, 2021 election won’t hold, IgbereTV reports.

IPOB had threatened that no election would hold in the entire South-East zone (Imo, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi and Abia states) till it achieved its agitation for secession from the Nigerian state.

Ubah, who represents Anambra South in the upper legislative chamber, made this known on Monday in an interview with BBC Pidgin monitored by IgbereTV.

Ubah who lamented about the negative impact of the Mondays sit-at-home order also stated that the South-East politicians are working to resolve the case of the detained IPOB leader who is facing terrorism-related charged before Justice Binta Nyako, and whose case has been adjourned to October 21, 2021 for continued hearing.

It is well.

It appears that it is only Ifeanyi Ubah that has common sense among the guber candidates for the Anambra polls. Others are either deceiving themselves or simply aloof.

I watched Soludo interview on BBC Igbo addressing the same issue, and he did not convince me with his argument that "IPOB are our brothers, and therefore they should understand that elections must hold, or we may get something worse".
Key IPOB argument has always been that all past elections did not deliver the people's political wishes; why then should future ones deliver? Gov Obiano of Anambra state cannot even sign an anti-open grazing law for a people that voted him into office.
Why should future governor sign it?

People like Andy Uba has been treating the whole thing like nothing, as if he is the governor in waiting because of APC's notoriety for rigging elections. But he forgets that Anambra is a unique animal in Igboland. He seems determined not to learn from his past failed attempts.

What Ifeanyi Ubah just said is exactly what I had expected smart people like Soludo to say.

The issue is even bigger than IPOB, because NINAS also believes that elections should not hold in Nigeria until the issue of constitution is settled. NINAS argued that any elections going forward only validates the flawed 1999 Constitution, and any government formed under that Constitution cannot deliver what people want at the grassroots. Under current constitution, only a saint would not go rogue.

IPOB is operating at the grassroots, and it makes sense to reach an agreement with them first before deciding how to proceed.
Nothing is really fixed in politics provided the people's wishes are done.

Ifeanyi Uba made a lot of sense with the explanation for his AMCON case. The agency, through its PRO, needs to release a rejoinder to counter what he said.

That said, IPOB needs to calm down for his election to hold. The polticians from the South East need to get Enyinnaya Abaribe to speak with them. That man is probably the most loved in the region because he always defends the region's interests.
