UK Employs 353 Nigerian Doctors In 100 Days by Worldtopnewsng2: 11:11am On Sep 22, 2021
Speaking to one of our correspondents on Tuesday, the Vice-President of the National Association of Resident Doctors, Julian Ojebo, said the rate of migration might double in the coming weeks since doctors were not given the right remuneration.

Ojebo argued that the doctors migrating to Saudi Arabia might even be more than those moving to the UK.

He said it was unfortunate that the government had failed to address the plight of doctors and meet their conditions for calling off the strike which began on August 1, 2021.

Ojebo stated, “If 353 Nigerian doctors have been licensed in the last 100 days, I am sure the figure will double within the next one month. The strike has opened the eyes to the doctors that Nigeria does not care about them.

Hmmm. We wish them all the best.

How great it would have been if,they at least , migrate with their parents and siblings.

In my opinion, they expect others they are leaving behind to help them cater to their parents and siblings when sick. Expecting those they are leaving behind to build the country and still expect them to abandon their own parents to attend to the parents the migrating doctors are leaving behind in Nigeria is wishful thinking o.

Whoever leaves or 'runs away' and requests his or her sick parents to give phone to healthcare professional here in Nigeria to pass on 'instruction' is not being realistic. It doesn't work and in fact the moment you start, the respect immediately drops. Nobody will take them seriously here.

Nobody will build Nigeria for them and nobody will take them serious afterwards so it's better they at least go with their parents. Afterall, those adorable parents toiled for their education and well being before they got to the stage of migrating overseas.

Would you have preferred them working with no deserving benefits? When they can earn ten times and above in the UK and Saudi Arabia. With that, they can send reasonable money home to cater for their families.
For your info., a consultant in Nigeria earns between 400-500. In the UK and Saudia, they earn between #1.2M-2m depending on your specialty. Who like poverty

Sir, it is everyone's right to migrate to anywhere to seek greener pastures and you don't even need to be educated. When overseas, I see a lot of foreigners loaded in long buses and being daily conveyed to their work sites and same workers can do same work in their native land but opted to work overseas to earn more so it's not a big deal rehashing the overused excuse that they are paid well overseas. We get it. We equally get why the Cuban doctors will rather stay back for their own parents and country. It's all about value system and personal choices. Nobody is judging them. Even garbage collectors overseas earn more than same garbage collectors here in Lagos.

It is the propaganda and sensational way the news of a doctor transferring his service from Nigeria to overseas like every professional and non professional does in most developing countries, is being used that makes me to reflect on why folks, especially healthcare professionals, who choose to stay back can call their bluff whenever they need the help of those who stayed behind to build.

Those migrating overseas can't eat their cake and have it. Nobody will take care of their parents and siblings for them to the best of their satisfaction. It perfectly reminds me of perhaps why no one took the son of the late CBN deputy governor serious when he was 'instructing ' the doctor here to do CPR on his dad when the guy already did so and the man had passed out but the son kept thinking he could fill his absence on a phone when his father critically needs him.

It's not a secret that nobody takes them serious when they call on phone to intervene after fleeing overseas.

That's why they should learn from the experiences of others. To avoid such scenario, if I am in their shoes,I will rather go with my parents than bank on the folks you are leaving behind. The folks they are leaving behind today to build Nigeria will not abandon their own parents to cater to your parents you are leaving behind.

For more clarification, the concerns is who will cater for the parents of those doctors who traveled abroad?? If I may, I wouldn't blame any Doctors who aspire to leave the shore of this country when the government is insensitive to the plight of these guys by not fulfilling an agreement you signed (not under duress); the same situation is currently panning out with ASUU. An agreement is an agreement!.
And sir, are you much aware that the government withheld August Salary of these doctors?? So, for those with families amongst them, how do they expect them to feed more or less cater for their families

Sir, the government has consistently denied owing them . I will not hold forth for either of the two sides but it's no news when anyone migrates to seek greener pastures. That's why this news is propaganda sir.
It's their right and choice but the opportunity cost of migrating overseas is their parents' care and attention here because others could have left too but chose to stay back for their own parents and country sir.
