Does anyone remember the popular London Hackney Taxis that Nasir El-Rufai did replicate in the FCT-Abuja back then as the FCT Minister in 2003-2007?

Just wondering how they all have disappeared from Abuja roads!

Anyone knows what became of them?

It was a really silly idea; thinking he could phase out the cabs at the time for these "London" taxis!

He didnt figure that in the UK, these were a part of a robust transportation system that had many travel options; trains, trams, buses, underground, cycling, taxis and even walking. In Nigeria , we had only rickety buses which had been banned from the city and Kabu kabu which carried 2 in front and 3 at the back. He introduced the big mass transit buses to replace the rickety buses and made the mistake of thinking these could replace the cabs. Wrong thinking! The hire purchase cost was high and these were just not practical especially for those who traveled 'along'.

Anyway he realised this and scrapped them for the 307 wagons which also failed and now we have our cabu cabu back on the streets constituting a huge nuisance
