In light of suspicious misinformation shared recently in the media over the revocation of the Atala Field [OML 46], it has become a matter of necessity to simplify and breakdown for the record, some of the facts that led to the revocation of the Atala Marginal Field by the Federal Government

A. The Atala JV did not and could not produce the Atala Field, that is the simple fact. In 17 years [6,205 days], the Atala JV only produced oil for about 80 days. Scandalous! All this hue and cry about BOCL losing the Atala Marginal Field boils down to one thing, 17 years of incompetence and inactivity.

B. It is strange that a host community that sat down for 17 years without any seeming progress from the Atala field suddenly has "well-wishers" willing to fight for their rights? Especially, now that same field is making physical progress? The truth remains with the host communities who remain happy and excited at the quick paced progress of the Atala field’s new ownership.


C. CENTURY HAS NEVER OWNED 35% OR 29% OF ATALA BECAUSE IT NEVER PAID THE FARM-IN CONSIDERATION OF $1,500,000.00 TO THE BAYELSA OIL COMPANY LIMITED [BOCL].

CENTURY IS STILL OWING BOCL AND THE BAYELSA STATE GOVERNMENT $1,500,000.00 AND NEVER FULFILLED THE CONDITIONS PRECEDENT TO OWNING ANY INTEREST IN THE ATALA FIELD.

We the Youth of the Host Community hereby call on the State Government of Bayelsa and the Department of Petroleum Resources [DPR] to please investigate Century's bogus and falsified claims of $103,031,579.92 spent developing the Atala Field and if found guilty of fraud, tax evasion, levy non-remittance, crude oil diversion, etc, they must bear the full consequences of their actions as accorded by law.
