Can we ask some questions and do some analysis based on these official figures?

203,991 confirmed
192,139 discharged
2,671 deaths

1) These are cumulative data for about 18 months.

2) Were all the 203,991 sick because they are referred to as cases? If so, what proportion was mildly, moderately or severely sick?

3) Was a proportion of the 203,991 asymptomatic? If so what was the proportion?

4) What was the amplification level of the PCR test used to detect positive results?

5) Isn't the PCR test essentially a screening tool? If it isn't a diagnostic tool why use the term "confirmed"?

6) Were all the 192,139 said to have been discharged, admitted into isolation centres or designated hospitals then treated and got well, then discharged home?

7) Based on the above figures can we conclude that our "survival rate" from the disease is 203,991 minus 2,671 multiply by 100 divided by 203,991 = 98.7%

cool Based on the figures what is the proportion of deaths among cases? 2,671 x 100 / 203,991 = 1.3%.

9) What is the Crude Death Rate in the last 18 months or so for the disease based on the data above if our mid-year estimated population is 200,000,000? It appears that this is about 0.0007 per 1000 per month or 0.7 per 1,000,000 or 7 per 10,000,000.

10) Please in all the above I stand to be corrected. I invite others especially statisticians, researchers, doctors, public health experts, etc to please comment on this post for the good of our country and fellow Nigerians.

God bless Nigeria!
