Job Title: Vice Principal Academic Vocational Training Centre for the Blind
Responsible to: Principal
Key Stakeholders: Students, parents, BOG, other employees, Contractors, Educational Regulators, Government and similar institutions etc.

Main Purpose of the Role.
The Vice Principal Academic position reports to the Principal and has the responsibility of assisting the Principal for the overall supervision and management of the academic and rehabilitation activities of the Centre in line with the defined Objectives of the School and Society.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The vice principal academic shall provide support to the principal to achieve key responsibilities which include but not limited to the following:
To be aware of the Objectives, Values, and Code of Conduct of the institution in order to ensure strict adherence by students and other employees.
Plans,   supervises   and   evaluates   teaching   methods   to   ensure   target   academic achievements are met.
Creates and implements staff training and refresher courses.
Plans and prepares the Academic Budget of the year.
Leads all operational aspects of the academic department
Sets objectives for students to meet, and develop a plan of action for teachers to follow in helping students achieve those benchmarks
Works  towards  the  school  achieving  excellent  results  in  all  internal  and  external examinations and competititions.
Meets with the school board members in order to discuss and develop policies and procedures
Possesses ability to drive a 21st century system of education in teaching, learning and evaluation.
Integrates and develops students' entrepreneurial and vocational Skills
Effectively develops strategies to project the image of school globally for productive marketing
Develops objectives for extra-curricular activities to include the sports program
Evaluates student progress in order to determine whether an educational plan is being effective. Makes modifications to the plan as needed
Develops innovative strategies to raise funds for developmental projects and charity projects for the school.
Develop and implements an effective instructional programme appropriate for the students. Careful attention should be given to the supervision of teachers and other personnel working in the school, including teaching staff.
Ensures teacher tracks, manages and documents the performance of students behavior and academic performance.
(Interfaces and actively engages each parents/guardian on students performance.
Routinely organizes activities that will promote academic excellence and boost community relationship with the school.
Manages day to day academic activities of the institution including night prep.
Sets weekly, monthly and academic -year-end goals and expectations for teachers to achieve school accelerated growth to meet the aims and objectives of the school.
Prepare academic time table and allocate courses where necessary.
The individual shall have a weekly minimum of five periods of lesson.
Ensures effective academic record keeping of events at the VTC
Ensures weekly checking and marking of lesson notes and other statutory records of teachers.
Ensure that tests and examinations are promptly conducted, graded, reported.
Resolve conflicts among instructors and students
Take instructions and directives from the Principal and BOG.
Any other duties as directed by Principal and BOG.

Be a good communicator with a clear understanding of the role and its responsibilities;
Must have a caring disposition, fortitude, emotional resilience, patience, a well-developed work ethic, a sensitive awareness of the needs of young people and adults. A good sense of humour is essential too.

Desirable Skills
Experienced school teacher.
Working at a supervisory level e.g. Dept. Head or Vice Principal level
Working unsupervised self-motivated
Must be computer literate
Must be teachable and willing to learn new skills

Essential Skills and Qualifications

Minimum of First Degree in Education (Special Education and Masters degree will be added advantage)
Must be between the ages of 35-50
Knowledge of psychology
Customer service skills
Thorough and pays attention to details
Patience and the ability to remain calm under pressure
First Aid Essentials
Fire safety trained (to be provided if not available)
CPR trained (this will be provided if not available)
