What You Need To Know About Acupuncture by Acuherb: 2:56pm On May 28, 2011
INTRODUCTION

The holistic view of healthcare delivery has gained significant momentum worldwide. The WHO (World Health Organisation ) has contributed immensely to this development. Advanced nations of the world have in one way or the other embraced and are making tremendous progress in this regard. African countries are yet to scientifically embrace this development. Even the impact of the Western orthodox medicine practice which every advanced country is presently fine-tuning still has a long way to go in Africa.

That a sudden or so called mysterious death occurs has nothing to do witchcraft, ill luck and or all the other unsubstantiated stories. Such stories are borne out of ignorance and no longer hold water where serious minded individuals are brainstorming on health matters. It is all about what has gone wrong inside of us. That the Heart, Lungs, Liver, Kidneys, Spleen, Bladder, Gall Bladder, Small Intestine, Large Intestine, Stomach, Pericardium and Triple Energiser are what keep man going is no longer news. An unnamed factor which has come in different names from time immemorial but which the Chinese discovered and named Qi (Vital Life Force) is what powers the organs and the organs in turn keep us alive if they are active and functional. The Chinese discovered over 5,000 years ago where and how this Qi(pronounced chee) circulates in man. It is the fundamental force that maintains the function of the human body. Its theory does not play a role in the Western Orthodox medicine or so to say “Traditional Science”. If this energy movement in us is uninterrupted, the organs remain active and we are able to function well, avoid diseases and are able to live in harmony with ourselves and with others. It is man’s privilege to know how the core of himself operates in ralation to the source of his life not withstanding his affiliation with any religious movement.

What is news now is that the Americans have combined technology with the ancient Chinese wisdom to reduce this mystery into a computerised system. We can now see the Qi (Vital Energy) and objectively know how it circulates in us in its natural ettempt to keep our organs active. The harmonious flow of this vital energy along the invisible energy channels in us called meridians is what determines the state of our health as it activates our organs on its way in and around the human body. A sustained disruption however results in initial weakness and eventual malfuntioning of the human organs. This situation if not quickly arrested eventually leads to ill health and death. It is important that we know the natural functions of our organs and the things we ignorantly do that kill us slowly but surely. Apart from accidental death, we have the capacity to live a life that we can control objectively without the fear of dying mysteriously or so called death without an obvious cause.

Acupuncture is in the forefront of the contemporary demand for alternative and natural medicine. It is offered as a course of study under a complete four year academic program in China. It has also been long adopted and widely practiced in Europe and America. You have schools scattered all over America offering courses in Acupuncture. There are presently thousands of practitioners in Europe and America. A lot of orthodox hospitals in America and Europe are adding acupuncture systems to their conventional hospitals. Health matters have improved in these areas as a result of the consideration and addition of this complementary practice to the orthodox practice. These are as a result of disatisfaction with drug oriented therapies and the quest for solutions to unresolved health issues.

Our company- Messrs MULTIPLE HEALTH TIPS LTD( MHTL ) solely represent in Africa- the group of Americans and Chinese Americans that invented the 2010 World Best Acupuncture diagnostic software called AcuGraph (www.miridiatech.com ). AcuGraph detects faulty flow of Qi (Vital Life Force ) to the human organs and presents treatment protocols in minutes of examination. It is compatible with all other forms of health practice. We are also affiliated with some acupuncture schools in America and China. Certain srtategies have been put together with these these group of Americans and Chinese with the view to transfering acupuncture knowledge/practice and accompanying technology to interested African countries through short term localised training for the purpose of boosting the existing orthodox hospitals with acupuncture knowledge /departments or new acupuncture hospitals/clinics. Thereafter, necessary logistics can be put in place to set up full blown acupuncture hospitals and graduate schools in acupuncture.

Designed acupuncture teaching programs and setting up of acupuncture hospitals, clinics and or deparments tailored to the needs of individual African settings with the view to strenghtening the activities of existing Western orthodox Hospitals are available for requests.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a complete system of medical practice that is backed by a very long history of safe and effective treatment of a very broad range of cases. It uses a very unique set of theories that categorize natural phenomena to help us understand our environment, our emotions and our life styles as they affect our health. Taking after the pattern of nature to derive its concept and viewing every aspect of a person – body, mind, spirit, and emotions as part of one complete whole rather than individual parts to be treated, Acupuncture is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that dates as far back as 5,000 years ago. One cannot talk about acupuncture without a basic knowledge of the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for which acupuncture is part. Therefore, in writing about acupuncture the word TCM may be more in use because it is more encompassing.

At the heart of TCM is the tenet that the root causes of illnesses and not the symptoms must be treated. It also teaches that the human body is like a small universe (microcosm) in a big universe (macrocosm) which implies that humans must follow the laws of the nature to achieve harmony and total health. Developed acupuncture theories and practices are actually observations and descriptions of universal laws and not concepts created by man. The interdependence and the complex harmonious relationships within nature were critically observed, monitored and considered by the ancient Chinese and eventually was developed into a body of knowledge and wisdom. These theories were later applied as a way of life and healing the human body. The Five Elements, Yin and Yang, Qi and Blood, Meridian Theories etc. which formed the basic knowledge of acupuncture, all follow the laws of nature.

Acupuncture teaches that the human organs are kept functional through the proper flow of Qi (Vital Life Force) that flows along invisible energy pathways in man called meridians. We have fourteen major meridians that form the energy network that connects all parts of the body and the body to the universe. Each of these meridians is related to a specific human organ system that link with others and connects all body structures- skin, bones, tendons, internal organs, muscles etc. It is through this network that harmony, messages and the intelligence relationship that exist in and outside the human system is maintained. Qi is considered to be the force that informs and animates all things. Disease sets in as soon as there is sustained blockage, stagnation, split, excess or low flow of this life energy along the meridian channels. Almost all the illnesses including those that defy orthodox approach are traceable to any of these blockages or abnormal flows. Acupuncture practice therefore seeks to return the body to normalcy by unblocking and sustaining the flow of life energy through its various age-long time tested procedures. Infact, acupuncture practice is to balance the energy flow in man in order to enable it fight off diseases. Nevertheless, acupuncture techniques is continually verified and improved upon by practitioners from all over the world.

In order to understand the theory of acupuncture, one has to forget all the concepts of Western medicine that he has been brought up with. For, not only is this theory couched in terms evolved in an alien (Chinese) culture but is also far more esoteric than the flesh and bones theories of the Western medicine. The latter treats the physical matter of the body. If the function of the body has become disrupted, the Western medicine treats with drugs- for example, giving anti-hypertensives to treat raised blood pressure. If a part has become seemingly irreparably diseased, or is doing the patient harm, it is surgically removed- for example, the removal of an inflamed appendix or overactive thyroid gland. Or if the part has merely become distorted, it may be surgically repaired- for example, the repair of a prolapsed womb. And for parts of the body which function is inadequate, there is a variety of therapies which aim is to encourage the return of normal function by stimulating the affected part- for example, physiotherapy in the case of a poorly functioning muscles and psychotherapy for mental problems.
