6 Best Practices for Your Smartphone Security in 2021

It’s 2021, and we can all pretty much conclude that smartphone technologies make life more convenient.

For a huge section of the human population, smartphones have almost become a requirement for everything — from setting alarms to reading emails to monitoring bank balances.

But along with the convenience they bring, the prevalence of smartphones in our lives has brought about fears that our privacy and personal information can be compromised.

Fortunately, there are a ton of great tips and tricks out there to help keep you and your information protected. We’ve done the work for you, and here are six best practices for smartphone security.

Tip #1: Always lock your screen

Just like you would lock your doors at home when you step out of the house, lock your phone screen when it’s not in use.
Locking your phone provides an added layer of security for sensitive information like your address book, your credit card information, and your login credentials.

If your smartphone includes a fingerprint scanner, that’ll be your best bet. That’s because fingerprints are not only unique to each individual, they also differ between each finger. And they’re a more secure technique for keeping your phone locked than other methods like using your FaceID.

If your phone doesn’t come with a fingerprint scanner, there are alternative locking methods, such as facial identification, PIN codes, PIN lock applications, passwords, and unlock patterns. When employing these methods, be sure not to pick overly simple patterns or obvious PIN codes, like your birth year or a numerical sequence that can be easily guessed.

Tip #2: Don’t save payment details and login credentials on your phone

We’re all guilty of clicking ‘YES’ when prompted to save login credentials and credit card details on our phones. After all, at the rate we’re shopping online, we’re going to need the information sooner or later, right?
Well, while that may be true, what we’re essentially doing is trading security for convenience. We’re making it really easy for hackers or whoever gets hold of our phone to access our data and payment information.
It may be cumbersome to enter your username, password, or credit card details each time you’re prompted to — but remember that it’s easier to do so than having to cope with the loss of your private data.
