Oron Nation: A Cog In The Akwa Ibom Machine by DeUpdatesBlog: 10:06am On Sep 30, 2021
Akwa Ibom state is one of the states in Nigeria blessed with enormous solid and mineral resources. Akwa Ibom is made up of three (3) senatorial districts which includes; Uyo senatorial district, Ikot Ekpene senatorial district and finally, Eket senatorial district.

The Oron or Örö people are a multi-ethnic tribal grouping that make up the Akpakip Oro or Oron Nation. The Örö are located primarily in southern Nigeria in the riverine area of Akwa Ibom state.

In recent times, the Oro Nation through some of their socio-cultural organizations leadership has polluted the social media space which is a powerful weapon for information dissemination with unruly and baseless informations, insulting His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel with demeaning comments and assertions.

They bold question every Akwa Ibomites must ask is WHY ALWAYS ORON?

It is worthy to note that during the construction of Victor Attah's International airport, a cross section of Oro nation women striped naked agitating against the construction of the airport citing their farmlands as their justification for the barbaric act and hence, won't have any singular benefit from the airport.

Ohhh, what a sad tale!!!!!

Also the same people sometime last year protested against the state government and other multinational companies sited in their landmark for marginalization. During the protest period, the socio-economic activities in the area was in a total lockdown and to be emphatic, the zenith of it all was when they soughted for a court order,demanding for a ton of 4 trillion naira from Akwa Ibom state government as compensation for the wrongful "exclusion of Oro nation as an oil producing Community in Akwa Ibom".

To further outline the insensitivity and selfishness of Oro Nation, they've used all modus-operandus of propagating fake and incessant assertions by opining that Mr. Udom Emmanuel is a "Thief" who has taken away their birthright of producing the then next Governor of Akwa Ibom state when the position was zoned to the Eket Senatorial District in 2015.

Now on the current trend, it's is pertinent for you to ask yourself a question why must it always be the Oro Nation?

A seaport was to be constructed in the Oro nation land precisely Ibaka, Mbo but it was very sad as leaders of their diverse socio-cultural organizations or groups wrote different petitions against the construction of the seaport to the Federal Ministry of Transport with reasons of the name changed from the Ibaka Seaport to Ibom Deep seaport.

These ingrates also wrote unfounded and spurious allegations, attacked the investors who had interest on investing on the massive project and drove them away from the project site.

This is evident in a letter written by Oron Union to the Ministry of Transport attacking the state government for illegal relocation of the seaport from Ibaka bay to Ibeno bay whereas, such letter works against the interest of the nations economy and the state.

It was on this premise that the director of Maritime services, Ministry of Transport replied the misleading allegation and called on the people of Oron Union to corporate with the state government for the actualization of the dreams of the state government.

Upon the advice given to them, they're still attacking and Insulting the Governor for the good intention he has for the Oron Nation.

It's a pitiable pissma that a then well respected Oro elder Engr. Nkupbre Okon, the former managing director of Niger Dock and also, a chieftain of All Progressive Congress (APC) for seditive postulations pertaining to Ibom Deep seaport and particularly insulting and cursing the Governor like an illiterate. Here, he can be best described as an 'educated dunderhead.'

It is noticeable that Chief Nkupbre in his short-sighted state derailed from Ibom Deep seaport issues to personally waging war against Mr. Udom Emmanuel by raining incessant insults on the visionary-servant leader. Also, Nkupbre has rained series of abuse on Mr. Udom Emmanuel for stating during the Friday's media parley session when HE asserted that "Oro people should be held responsible if Ibom Deep Seaport is not actualized before the end of his tenure in 2023".

Nkupbre and his cohorts must understand that no matter how much you insult the governor and write petition, it won't still change the fact that he is the Governor of Akwa Ibom State which the Oro Nation is included.

Ibom Deep Seaport is certainly not for Governor Udom Emmanuel but for Akwa Ibom state. Oro petition is not stopping or taking anything from Governor Udom Emmanuel but rather, the effort of the Oro nation to frustrate the good intention of our Gov shall never succeed.

In summation, Ibom is a brand and it's a collective responsibility for every ethnic group in Akwa Ibom to strive assiduously towards protecting the brand and not being a cog in the machine of progress.

Let Oron Union, Nkupbre and his cohorts repent and stop writing petitions and insulting the Governor but rather join-hands-in-gloves to move the state forward to greater heights.

I don't want to insult you this morning, have you ever tried to look into their agitation, what I have learnt is that Nigeria's problem is very complex, it is microzonning, as small as Akwaibom is, you have this complex problem and you don't seem to see the plights of this minorities but each time any one gets opportunity in Nigeria they blackmail the Hausa, Igbo or Yorubas.

It is obvious from what you are saying that this Oron people are quite blessed and if so and the airport, deep Seaports, crude oil and numerous multi nationals are located in their soil but the women are still subsistence farmers I put it to you that the authority in AKS does not deserve any good deed from these Oron people;

And here you are speaking bad of this blessed people, what's wrong with people in this country, what's the need in building things in their land when it don't benefit them?;

My heart truly go out this Oron people honestly, too bad the first time I read about you is from a hate filled and insensitive bigot.
