I'm thinking this is intentional to have people switch to electric cars and live eco-friendly, UK is very passionate about climate change.

No, this is due to a shortage of truck drivers...althrough the UK GOVERNMENT is going greener too.

What is happening is the result of

1.The government encouraging more and more young people to go to university for several decades. That means potential truck drivers from the UK over the years have gone to university instead of becoming apprentice truck drivers.
(Here is a statistic for you. In 2019,. 51% of british school leavers went to tertiary studies. In 1958 it was 2%)

2.Brexit. Before brexit there was a shortage of UK truck drivers. But because the UK was part of the EU...they hid the shortage by using drivers from other EU countries (Poland was a major contributor). Brexit ended that supply of free EU labour (we are now just seeing the effects..because intially the UK was still part of the EU customs union after Brexit, but now).

All foreign truck drivers now need visas and permits to work in the UK...and Brexit made it harder .

3.Back in the 1960's, a well intentioned government offical advised the UK government to close a lot of railline in the UK. The result is the available UK tracks cannot adequately step up to the plate re transport.

4.It isn't just fuel...a lot of other things transported by trucks are affected. (And there isn't a decent enough electric truck yet.)

5.Truck driving does not pay well like it used to. For a UK citizen that is.

There are already issuing visa to people with skills in demand (including truck drivers). Of course, you don't expect them to open thier borders with a signboard "truck drivers, come in". Lol. They still need to sieve out the fake ones and potential trouble makers. The issue is that some Africans don't know the importance of certification or paper works in general. Some truck drivers with years of experience don't have anything to show as a proof of work history.

Some didn't go through any recognized training school and therefore have no certificate. Some don't belong to the association. Some don't have any properly dated employment letter. Some don't have pay stubs. Some were even paid in cash. Some can't even speak basic English. These things constitute a clog in the wheel of thier progress cause such paper works are required to prepare a "strong application".

I wish them well.

I just wonder too. How can I be a billionaire without having sophisticated modern luxury fleets of electric cars. Being a billionaire should at least make me highly and solidly fully independent of any brand of hardships from government or people....i guess am thinking like a Nigerian where I ain't rich until I own petrol station, banks, oil fields, petrol depots and even owing a whole community of people and lots of thugs to get anything done for me. That's the Nigeria billionaire for you. A slave driver and an abuser of human rights.

1.I won't be surprised if the UK doesn't open up to Nigeria and other commonwealth countries...now that Brexit has happened.

2.To drive in the UK, you need a valid UK licence...which means a session of learning, and testing.

From their government

How to get and keep the full Driver CPC. Apply for a provisional lorry or bus licence. Pass the 4 tests that make up Driver CPC to qualify. Take 35 hours of periodic training every 5 years to stay qualified.

100% of Nigerian truck drivers will not pass HGV driving test in UK. They will need at least 3 years of training

In the UK, one liter of fuel costs the equivalent of 758 naira, and the UK is an oil producing country like Nigeria.

Also, this is not a scarcity of fuel, but of truck drivers. The UK has had a shortage of truck drivers for decades. They covered up by allowing truck drivers from other EU countries to come in when they were a EU member, but once Brexit happened, those same truck drivers eventually needed a visa to come in...making things harder.

Honestly, SILENCE is always golden because someone's level of stupidity won't be known.

Now look at the trash you wrote up there. A litre is the UK. How much do you think a minimum wage in the UK cost and then do your simple conversion. You sound so ridiculously stupid

I don't recall abusing you. I just stated a fact in opposition to the point made in the comment that I was responding to . You had one job...to show me where I was wrong. You didn't but went straight to abuse.

That's very childish of you. It is also wrong and reflects badly on you. Try to be more polite and mature. You never know who you are responding to on this site. And the internet never forgets.

Well, the original comment I responded to implied that the cost of fuel and things in the UK were the same as, or lower than Nigeria. That's not the case, and that was the point I was responding to. I was not arguing for higher petrol prices in Nigeria, or higher prices in Nigeria for any goods or services for that matter (which is a whole other argument anyway)

Good evening. I do hope your life turns out great and blessed.

Modified

The UK has higher wages...and also higher taxes, and higher prices for everything. One may earn more in the UK than in Nigeria...but when the taxes, and bills come in, your nice salary begins to look weak and anemic.

Fuel is very expensive in the UK...but it pays for their good refineries, and ensures there is no scarcity(the current scarcity is due to a lack of drivers for their tankers). And anyway, one can live in the UK easily without a car, because of their good transport system...paid for by very high income taxes, and something called council tax.

And good governance. But this is a whole different argument, and not the one I intended to have.

Cristiano Ronaldo's driver waits seven hours to fill up Bentley but leaves without petrol

Cristiano Ronaldo scored the winning goal for Man United on Wednesday but his driver had contrasting fortunes prior, waiting hours at a petrol station but being unable to fill up the striker's £164,000 Bentley

Cristiano Ronaldo's driver waited nearly seven hours to fill up the Manchester United star's Bentley but left without any petrol amid the ongoing fuel crisis crippling the United Kingdom.

The newly-purchased £164,000 Bentley Flying Spur was pictured at a Shell forecourt near to the Man United star's home on Tuesday.

The supercar pulled up at 2:20pm and waited six hours and 40 minutes before finally leaving just after 9pm when the driver lost all hope that any petrol would be delivered.

The Bentley was accompanied at the petrol station by a Range Rover being driven by one of Ronaldo's bodyguards.

A source said "Even with all Ronaldo's money, he's in the same boat as the rest of us."

"His security waited for hours obviously hoping a tanker would eventually arrive but they were forced to drive off. The two men looked so fed up waiting in the rain."

The 36-year-old unsurprisingly has an array of supercars including three Ferraris, two Lamborghini, two Bugatti, two McLaren, two Rolls-Royce, a Porsche 911 Turbo S, a Koenigsegg CCX, a Bentley Continental GT Speed, a Range Rover Sport SVR, along with several Audi and Mercedes-AMGs.

His most expensive cars include a Ferrari Monza which has a valuation of £1.4million, a Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport valued at £1.7million and a £2.15million Bugatti Chiron.

But United saw Ronaldo's personal value on the pitch on Wednesday when he struck in the 95th minute to seal three priceless points for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co. in a Champions League win over Villarreal.

Post-match, the man himself told MUTV : "[It was] unbelievable! Another chapter, another beautiful chapter, so I’m so happy to score the winning goal and the way I did it.

"The most appearances in history and to score a goal. A great night. I have to mention the attitude of the team which is the most important [thing] here."
