COMMUNIQUE AT THE END OF THE MEETING OF EONYI
STATE COUNCIL OF ELDERS
The Ebonyi State Council of Elders rising from its monthly
regular meeting held on Wednesday the 29th September, 2021
resolved as follows:
(1) That we join other well-meaning Ebonyians to thank God and
also to Congratulate His Excellecny The Governor of Ebonyi
State, Engr. David Nweze Umahi as we celebrate the 61st
independence anniversary as well as Ebonyi State.
(2) That we commend very highly the Governor on his successful
efforts to connect Ebonyi State and indeed Ndi Igbo to central
governance of Nigeria .
(3)We also commend him on the infrastructural revolution in
Ebonyi State as well as human capital development of the people
of Ebonyi State. We specifically appreciate him on the ongoing
International Cargo Airport Project which is nearing completion,
the Mall, the Edda life saving 1km overhead bridge, the King
David University of Medical Scienes and a lot of other life
impacting Projects scattered across the State too numerous to
mention. The Council of Elders eequally appreciate The
Governor’s doggedness in attracting the construction of the on-
going Ebonyi Ring Road project which when completed
will boost the economic activities in rural areas and stem
drastically rural - urban migration in the state.

4. We strongly condemn the emergence of violence hitherto
unknown in the South-East which has claimed the lives of many
and destruction of properties of Ndi Igbo. We say that Ndi Igbo
are builders and not destroyers and hence violence has no place
in our lives. We therefore call on the President of the Federal
Government of Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari to find a
lasting solution to the crippling violence and separatist agitations
spreading across the country. We therefore urge the President to
use dialogue and diplomacy in resolving the conflicts ravaging
the country as quickly as possible.
5. We support the position of the Southern Governors Forum
which demands the Zoning of the Presidency come 2023 to the
South and add that it is the turn of the South East to fill the
position of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria come
2023. Our conviction is that the South East has enormous human
resources with proven acumen in Governance to fill the position
and take Nigeria to an enviable height in the committee of nations.
Finally the Ebonyi State Council of Elders passed a unanimous
vote of Confidence on the Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr David
Nweze Umahi on the able ways he has piloted the affairs of
Ebonyi and his Leadership Acumen in management of Human
and scarce financial resources.

*Signed by Engr. Benjamin Okah. Chairman, Ebonyi State Council of Elders*
