20 dollars of 1991 does not have the same value as 20 dollars of 2021. Inflation reduces the value of every currencies Btw, many Nigerians did not have 1, 520 naira in their bank accounts or walldrobe in 1989 114 Likes 5 Shares |

Its not about the cost, its about the purchasing power, how many people could afford 600bags in --89? 45 Likes 6 Shares |

Going by the price of cement and inflation rate Toda, then we are going forward. In 1982 the naira to dollar is #1 to $0.5. Meaning if 40 bags is #1520, then 1bag is #38 or better still 19dollar. $19 dollar to naira today is 7800. In essence cement is actually cheaper today. 83 Likes 13 Shares |

PDP 16 wasted years was a disaster to this country. Cement was not more than 50 naira before PDP took over. By 2015 when the corrupt party left cement was already 2000(two thousand) plus. PDP die, die, die!!!! Forever. 4 Likes 1 Share |

For each and every politician that have looted from our national treasury, no matter the party they are, And put our darlingnationin this mess never end well in life, along with those supporting them.....again, no matter the party they are. May the miserable lives they are in now continue to be with them for supporting thieves, looters and criminals that took our darling nation 100 years back. May devil punish them all. Say AMEN to this if you are not a hypocrite. Swines everywhere. They stole money meant to bring development, peace and a lot to this nation. Yall will never end well in life. Criminals. Hmmm I agree with the upthread poster who said it was not about the cost, it was about the relative value of the naira then In 1989, one dollar was 6 naira. Back then, we still had severe economic issues. Most people were poor, most people could not build their houses, or buy new cars easily, and ASUU had put out a sticker saying that 'my take home salary cannot take me home' Most people did not have a phone in their house, or a vhs/betamax player in their home. For the vast majority, it was radio. Cable was coming along , but it was very expensive, and avialable in limited areas. Computers were very expensive, and not available in most houses, even upper class houses.(most offices did not even have a computer self!) Imported stuff was very very hard to get too. Adult Nigerians had side hustles in addition to their normal salary jobs...including something called kabu kabu. So, thinking that things were good back then...no they were not. (In 1990, we had a brief oil boom...but that was brief) 8 Likes |

Gbedulord: Thanks for sharing Food for thought jumper524: Thanks for this interesting analysis to put things in perspective Even though the actual date on the receipt is 1989 not 1982, I still appreciate the comparison you did. Having grown up during that period, I don't remember adults then celebrating how good those days were. Those days have now become "glory days" in retrospect.... 13 Likes |

This post was meant to weep up sentiments. The poster did not tell us that minimum wage back then was less than 200 naira compared to 30 000 Naira now. That man who bought 40 bags at once was a millionaire, most people built mud houses in the 80s. 14 Likes 3 Shares |

and yet more people own houses today than then ... the truth is it was just as hard to buy cement then as it is now .. if cement remained at that price your monthly minimu wage will be 150 naira 4 Likes |
