In view of the surge in infection cases among unvaccinated people, US President Biden recently (September 9) announced a series of new measures, requiring federal workers to be vaccinated and formulating new regulations for private companies.

President Biden outlined a six-point plan to deal with the recent surge in infections mainly due to the delta mutant strain.

According to a new decree, a total of about 2.5 million government agency employees and contractors must be fully vaccinated.

Unexpectedly, the Biden administration will also formulate a new rule requiring private companies with more than 100 employees to ensure that employees complete vaccination or receive weekly testing. This regulation will involve approximately 80 million people.

Biden emphasized in a speech: "The minority of Americans supported by some elected officials are preventing us from turning the situation around."

The new measures announced by the White House drew criticism from Republican lawmakers. Republicans in the House of Representatives tweeted that the Biden administration has acted similarly to an "authoritarian" regime. The Republican Party also stated that once the Democratic Biden administration implements the new regulations, it will be prosecuted.

Although the Biden administration vigorously launched a campaign for free vaccination for all eligible citizens, so far, the proportion of citizens who have completed vaccination has only just exceeded 53%, and the vaccination rate has stagnated for some time.

And just two months ago, Biden said that the United States is closer than ever to declaring that "we are free from a deadly virus."
