Mums are definitely right when it is about those small things that matter. It was important to learn and practice all those personal hygienes that were taught to us when we were younger. When neglected, this can cause detrimental effects to our beautiful body. Here are some of the essentials in order to prevent illnesses and to maintain good personal health.

Cut your nails. It is a fashion statement for some to grow their nails. Do you know that the habit of growing your nails will accumulate germs and dirt under your nails? The issue is that often we do not realize when our fingers touch our face. Some even have their fingers in their mouths while they bite off tiny bits of nails to chew off with their anxiety. Old habits die hard and this phrase seems to have a dark aura to it when used here. Cut your nails regularly and avoid having them in your mouth at all costs. Even more so during this pandemic!

Wash your hands. With Covid running rampant around the world. Extra care to proper handwashing is slowly becoming a norm. This helps prevent unwanted germs from being on your hands. We do not see tiny microorganisms, if we did we might be extra careful with where we put our hands. In addition to us being protected from these dangerous germs, we also protect others by not spreading these germs around. Parents should educate younger ones on the importance of handwashing and the proper techniques to do so. This can prevent many deaths related to diarrhea and pneumonia. This in turn prevents the use of excessive antibiotic use and avoids the rise of antibiotic resistance.

Brush and floss regularly. There are close to 700 hundred species of bacteria in your mouth. Some are good, some are bad and they live in a balanced ecosystem of their own. Poor oral hygiene can make the bad bacteria overcome the good and unbalance the ecosystem. It is recommended for one to ideally brush their teeth after each meal. The accumulation of bacteria in your mouth can lead to multiple oral and gum diseases. Unhealthy teeth lead to many painful issues. To maintain satisfying oral hygiene as well as a sweet beautiful smile, do visit a dentist every 6 months. This enhances your oral health significantly. A dentist will be able to help you early and this stops any unwanted complications.

Take a bath regularly. Wash your hair and body at regular intervals to take off dirt and sweat that are accumulated. A human being sheds dead skin every day of their lives. Bathing can help remove dead cells, avoid irritation and sores from the accumulation of these cells. Apart from cleanliness, taking a bath can also help your mental health greatly. When done right, taking a bath can be the ultimate self-care. Mood can be elevated and stress can be eliminated in your shower. Apart from this, studies have shown benefits to your joints and muscles as you wash away. To add to that, baths can help reduce headaches and even improve sleep quality.

Sleep hygiene is important. Get a good amount of sleep everyday and this will help you to stay refreshed the next day. A good amount of sleep helps the body rejuvenate and improves overall wellbeing. A lack of sleep can leave you feeling tired, weak and even can compromise your immune system. There are a few practices that can greatly help improve your quality time in bed. Do not consume excessive amounts of food before bed and avoid caffeinated products at night. Apart from that, stay away from your phones for a period of time before you get to bed. This small habits help you fall asleep easier and wake up fresher than ever. Do remember the bed is a place to only sleep or to make love, all other habits are prohibited. This helps train your mind to achieve a better sleeping habit.
