This statistic is totally wrong I do talking about debt or debt to China. When you look at America every year what they produce in 5 years they can pay off their debts. But when you look at Nigeria it is another thing look at the debt and the revenue generation there you know there is a problem. Nigeria is now onw about 100 billion dollars dollar

USA can't pay off their debt in 5 years otherwise they won't have any debt now. Their debt is more than their GDP.

Nigeria is better positioned to pay off it's debt if it intends to.
Our debt is about a quarter of our GDP. The problem we have is our govt is not well structured to raise a respectable revenue from the economy and our exports is too low to support the size of our economy.

We must invest in our people and infrastructure to become more competitive globally to produce goods and services the world wants. We will need to take on debt to achieve that dream

It may look quite relieving that Nigeria is no where seen in the top most indebted countries of the world. But, looking at the African list. All in the list, except for Kenya and Ethiopia, are not thriving economies. Top economies like South Africa, Egypt, Algeria, etc which Nigeria should benchmark with are not in the list of debt ridden countries in Africa. Living on debt for recurrent and developmental projects (roads,railway, etc) expenditures like Nigeria does is a bad economic strategy. Rather, debt burden should be poured on productive capital expenditure which in turn will yield returns from which the borrowed funds will be paid back effortlessly.

Yes, the railways and roads are part of attractions for investors but are there attractive fiscal and monetary policies which also are valuable indices to evaluate an investment destination.

USA and others on the top indebted list may be highly indebted but they have great and effective economic policies which guarantees an investment security. Nigeria needs to get it right in all areas before consoling herself with her level of indebtedness in comparison with the top 20s.
