Lagos State civil servants on Tuesday gathered at the state secretariat, Alausa, to hold a prayer session for the state governor, Babatunde Fashola and his deputy, Joke Orelope-Adefulire. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the prayers were to usher in the new administration. Kasim Rafiu, Imam of the Secretariat Mosque and Olusola Tanimonu of the Chapel of the Light Church, Alausa, led the payers.

The prayer session, which was well attended by civil servants and other top officials of the state, was held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium Hall.

The workers prayed for God’s guidance for the governor as he assumed duty for a second term.

The Head of Service, Adesegun Ogunlewe, said the prayers were organised to ensure the success of the administration.

“It is to show support for the government as it begins a new term.

“It is also to show appreciation to the governor for what he had done for the state and the workers, particularly in the last four years.

“Of particular note is the implementation of the new minimum wage. I am happy to say that Lagos is the only state in the entire federation that has paid the N18,000 minimum wage, “ he told the congregation.

Mr Ogunlewe urged workers to be more dedicated to their duties, to reciprocate government`s gesture.

Mr Fashola thanked the workers for organising the prayers, saying “they have done the most appropriate thing by marking my first day in office with prayers”.

He said God is the force behind his re-election which recorded overwhelming votes from the people.

“We have seen the results of what we have done, we cannot stop, we have to do more,”the governor.
