Government has an obligation to ensure that no segment of the society is left behind, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq said on Thursday, saying the administration is committed to inclusive growth.

The Governor spoke in Ilorin, the state capital, as the Office of the Special Assistant on Women Empowerment gave out hundreds of tools, machines and cash to various categories of people based on their needs assessment.

The event was attended by Deputy Governor Kayode Alabi; cabinet members; top government officials; and party chieftains.

Beneficiaries of the empowerment are spread across the 16 local government areas of the state.

The Governor said the programme aligns with his administration's efforts to drive inclusive growth, poverty reduction, and societal cohesion.

"Our objective for supporting this kind of initiative is to give everyone a fair sense of belonging. This is not tokenism as some people may claim. It is a form of economic inclusion which is important to strengthen societal cohesion," according to the Governor.

He appealed to beneficiaries of the items to use them properly as a complement to their earlier training.

"Our appeal to the beneficiaries is to use it properly. I’m aware that some of the beneficiaries had earlier been trained and this is only to get them starting. For some others, it is government’s response to their needs assessment at this time," he said.

"Every society is divided into strata and each of them deserves to be taken care of within available resources. This is what we are committed to. We will not leave anyone behind.

"A careful reading of our Economic Sustainability and Delivery Plan 2021-2024 shows clearly the direction we are headed. We are not just committed to opening up Kwara for sustainable development by building critical infrastructure, we are working very hard to achieve inclusive growth that brings everyone on board."

Special Assistant to the Governor on Women Empowerment Hajia Bolanle Ismail said the administration believes that entrepreneurship is a viral component of the global campaign against mass poverty.

"It is vital to have support mechanisms, organisations, mentors, networks and training through which we can implement our brilliant, game changing ideas. We are incredibly fortunate to have all of these in the roadmap of the government," she said.

"Governor AbdulRazaq is always ready to rekindle the lost hope and bring laughter to Kwaran women."

Items distributed included sewing machines, grinding machines, deep-freezers, make-up kits.

Very remarkable, I hope it's people that genuinely need the items that gets them not those with connections.

It won't get to people that genuinely need them, those items you see has already been shared among party stakeholders to give to their followers, what you see is just for publicity.

Governor Samuel Ortom please come and see what your mates are doing. Just come and see
He is having security challenges too. Even this kind of small empowerment you can't do. The other day it was wheelbarrow, the other day it was plates you were giving people to be served.

PDP failed Nigeria and has given us double failure in Benue. There's nothing to convince ANYBODY in Benue to vote for PDP come 2023.

Ortom has failed, PDP has failed us. There's nothing to write home about with Ortom. Pensioners are dying on a daily, they can't feed themselves, they can't go to hospital for treatment, 78 months with nothing to go home with. Is that not wickedness? Is PDP not wicked?

Benue is now as backward as anything with Ortom. Absolutely nothing to talk about.

Ortom for six years, can you tell the world what you have done for the state other than insult Buhari and shout herdsmen? Where and where are the herdsmen? You always put people at logger head just for your interest and personal gains.

Ortom show us your score card! You've done absolutely nothing for the Benue people and you expect us in Benue to vote for PDP again? You invited Wike to come and commission renovated project whereas Wike is building and constructing new projects.

Ortom you keep deceiving those outside Benue and keep making yourself known amongst people by simply shouting Buhari this and that. Now that the world knows about you through herdsmen, let the world know just one of your projects too. JUST ONE!

We feel the pains when we see the developmental strides of small Ebonyi state, how about Borno with serious security challenges, how about Ekiti, how about Nassarawa? Are this states not facing security challenges? Ortom what is your excuse?

Ortom show us your Projects and tell us how you've empowered the Benue populace. You can't keep deceiving people.

There u got it wrong. Lawmakers both senators and house of reps have no business in such. It is an anomaly. Their sole responsibility is legislative functions. The idea of giving these things to constituents should have been the function of the local government. Normally, if there is a database of all citizens the government can plan and target those who are in need of such help.
Because we now see the abnormal as normal we expect what should not be.
Over N700bn have been spent on such constituency projects in the last six years when u can imagine the huge difference if such monies were invested in real capital projects. That’s why during budget passage u see them fighting to insert this and that for their personal gain besides padding the budget.
