On a bus ride yesterday, while conversing with a passenger about the menace of agberos (touts) in Lagos, the driver remarked on the huge sums of money they make for their superiors.

He mentioned 12 million as being the figure for Ikotun and 35 million for Iyana Ipaja. The passenger thought it was weekly money. But no, that's the DAILY money they make.

So to get what they make weekly, just multiply by 7. If those are for Ikotun and Iyana Ipaja, imagine what they make in hot areas like Oshodi, Yaba, Lagos Island, Ikeja, and Ajah.

Honestly, there's a lot of money in touting, which is the reason for the turf wars that regularly occur among the NURTW.

With these figures, you are tempted to side with the 'school na scam' camp, if a group of touts can make this much daily and graduates roam the streets jobless. That's Lagos, your mega city for you.

Oh, by the way, the figures in this illustration are out of date. The conductor in the bus I got this gist said he counted how much he paid out to these touts on a particular day and it came to N9000.

That's three times the average figure in these statistics. Anyone wanna go touting?

Though I doubt this, but if true is pure extortion, evil and should be condemned. It is not as if the money collected is used to improve the condition of the road but instead to add burden on the people.
