If you love peace, pray for the country as it prepares to witness two events.
Tomorrow there will be EndSARS anniversary protest; and on thursday there will be trial of IPOB leader,Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. These two events are very crucial and critical for the country. Thus, there is rekindled anxiety among Nigerians.
These events are not something we treat with disinterest and triviality. For we are not ignorant of what happened in October last year When a little protest turned to becoming mammoth, tumultuous and wild -the largest protest carried out by the Nigerian youth in the history of the country. Of course, everyone was afraid: the govt, elites, and civilians at home and in diaspora. Even the security forces were confounded. They thought it was going to be the usual one or two days protest, and that by using tear gas, flash band grenades they would disperse the crowd. But it turned out that the crowds were not afraid of being truncheoned , or shot . As it turned more violent, many were killed.
The carnage done is still evident today.
The attention of the world was drawn to the uprising; and there was fear that the country would be overrun just as it had been in other countries. It's no longer theoretical that massive demonstrations like that have a destructive snowball effect .
If there had never been a time that the unity of the country was at stake post Civil war, that particular event of October 2020 placed the unity country on the brink of collapse.
And barely one year later, there is another march; and there is a trial. The trial of MNK is a highly anticipated one - unequivocally, the most anticipated since the turn of the new century in the country. The eyes of the world media,AU,UK etc are drawn to it.
We should pray that the outcome of these two events turns out to be peaceful.
