How To Avoid Being A Victim Of Purchasing A Stolen Vehicle Online by AK461(m): 9:06pm On Jun 02, 2011
The disposal of vehicles on social networks such as dealfish, nairaland, nairalist etc is gradually becoming the most convenient way to trade of these assets in recent times. This is replacing the frequent conventional car dealer interference involving inconvenient and fruitless negotiations as the case may be.
As we progress in our career and businesses, the need to step-up in terms of asset acquisition arises and this brings us to the subject matter vehicle disposal and acquisition. Purchasing a naija-used vehicle can make you save between 350k to as much as 1m (when compared to tokunbo) and between 550k to 2.5m (when compared to brand new vehicles). I know a couple of people who have had their cars stolen in the last few months and I don't expect the thieves to use these vehicles and if we observe closely most naija used vehicles on public fora like this are usually marketed by agents.
Based on experience, agents are in business to make money hence might need to compromise on standards when it comes to security checks, fast moving vehicles such as the toyota camry's and honda accords of this world have taken d center stage of naija-used cars for sale; these cars also top the chart in the list of stolen vehicles in the books/register of our "dead" Nigeria Police Force so its not hard to believe that it could be a dangerous choice to make going for a naija-used car. Note that a tokunbo car could also fall into this category but the risk is higher with a naija-used vehicle.
In the spirit of putting ourselves in each-other's shoes, can we kindly assist fellow nairalanders on a few tips that can help us avoid becoming victims of purchasing a stolen vehicle.
All suggestions will be highly appreciated as you might just be saving a soul.

Cheers
