how is it GEJ fault that people are committing dangerous crime rhat is destroying their environment, lives and polluting the air in PHC and environment.
if you know Rivers, you will know that the indigenes do not like to work but prefer collecting free momey from companies and businesses in the name of community.
they won't start business but will ensure that businesses are killed by extortion and sometimes, stealing.
they want to make millions over night without much sweat.
they prefer bunkery to any legit work prefering to have money to drink and carry woman every single day of the week.
someone was lying here that the environmental pollution is caused by flaring from refineries that are not operational.
they have destroyed the air in port Harcourt such that you can't even walk bare footed in your room without black sook deposit.
unfortunately, lives are lost but that is usua6 the end of such practices.

While I don't support illegal refineries, I would agree with the monicker you responded to because, if anything, GEJ with his PhD should have known that the fact that those operators of those refineries labelled as illegal could refine crude oil without having seen the gates of the university let alone study Petrochemical Engineering while our graduates of that discipline cannot, is a pointer to the fact that all that is needed to simultaneously address the perennial relative fuel scarcity in Nigeria and restiveness in the Niger Delta over this same crude oil politics was convert the huge Niger Deltan Militants' amnesty budget to sponsor the operators to overseas schools for better training on modular refineries operation. But what did he do? He too, like all his predecessors, used JTF to haunt them throughout his tenure.
No country becomes self sufficient by ignoring or haunting her indegenous talents for any reason.

They are now blaming IOCs. Rivers people and blaming oil companies are like bread and butter. You are doing something illegal and putting millions of people at risk and still have the effontry to blame oil companies. 25 down, more to go.
We need good air in port-harcourt.

Thanks also for your post.
The IOC's doesn't owe that community any dime. Most of the communities that make the most noise dont even have oil on their land. What they do is break the oil pipeline passing through their community and blackmail the oil companies for compensation, when that does not work they start refining the spilled crude oil illegally using the crudest (pun intended) method of just boiling the crude inside drums to make low grade kerosene and petrol while spewing over 60% of the crude as soot into the atmosphere. Damaging their health and those of us in nearby Port Harcourt.

my brother, they are not refining anything... they just heat it and get only two adulterated products kero and diesel.
the rest over 10 products, they just throw away and burn to destroy the environment.
there is no phd or talent needed to do illegal refinery, it is crime because they burst high density pipelines to steal the crude and the leave the leakage to continue destroying their own environment.
I agree with you about the failure of government to address the larger issues of education and unemployment. you are correct there.
the problem is that few criminals do the bunkery to get money for wasteful living while destroying rivers and farmlands that belong to the larger community.
few criminals get the money while killing the larger majority

That place is like hell on earth. It's a great wonder they don't perish every day with the kind of life defying risks they take trying to make a living in the belly of the beast.

It shows the height of man inhumanity against man, with what successive Nigerian governments and their cohorts have done to destroy that land and its people.
