In line with th Igbo culture, there is a need to have New Yam festival celebrated known as “Iri Ji”, this festival means thanking God for the harvest and fruitful yield for the year. Usually done from August to October. The Igbo Community in Abesan/Ipaja and around Alimosho came in numbers to celebrate this Iri Ji festival at Abesan Estate and was hosted by Chief Bona Odinaka, a reputable high chief in Lagos.

Not only celebrating the New Yam Festival. The Igbo community used that occasion to reward well meaning Igbo people that have contributed positively to the plight of igbo people in the community and also in Lagos State. Titles such as Ezinne and others were given to people after carefully selecting the awardees.

Led by Moses Nwokolo, the Igbo Community in Abesan/Ipaja has shown commitment to the welfare of their members. In his welcome speech after long deliberation on the best way to move the community forward, Moses Nwokolo,an ebullient leader said “ we are here to thank God for his protection and ensuring that we have seen a good harvest. In a country that we keep hearing funny news some days, we are celebrating and also using this opportunity to thank those that have made Igbo community here in Abesan and Ipaja Lagos think and also thanking the host, our able Lagos Governor Jide Sanwo Olu for allowing us to thrive.

In line with the welcome speech, Kachi Egwim, the financial secretary said “ though we are new as an association and we have evolved, our aim is to ensure that the welfare of our members is looked into, we also liaise with other igbo speaking community here in Alimosho but our primary objectives are to ensure that Igbo members in our catchment areas are well represented politically and taken care of, if there is a financial need.”

Ezinne, the woman leader added that, we as women are in total support of our leader, though there might be some teething challenges which is normal in leadership, we align with his leadership style and that is why we have come out en masse to ensure that this is a success and truly it was a huge success irrespective of the little challenges that came up. “

Igbo Community in Abesan/Ipaja has been a non profit, non political and non religious group that has evolved to be a strong association and recognised by the Mosan LCDA and Alimoso LG, led by Chief Moses Nwokolo, the community has many respected members that have offered various solutions and interventions to the challenges many Igbo members have over the year. Their Iri Ji is an annual event.

STFU, when will you guys stop laying claim on something that doesn't belong to you, who travel to Lagos shouldn't be problem to any reasonable Nigerian since Lagos is home for all and doesn't belong to anybody, if the entire Igbos like they should live their land come live for Lagos, it's nobody's business

And you guys are quick to generalize what is happening in Lagos as 'SW' , the news said Lagos and you're here wailing Igbos are trooping to SW as if they're much Igbos in real Yoruba states( SW aside Lagos) , you better change ur ways o
