It is shocking that the Igbo have always refused to support the political interests of the Yoruba people since 1959. Yet half of them live, work and study in Yorubaland. From Surulere to Badagry, every major suburb is dominated by the Igbo. From Coker-Aguda axis Agegunle on the left and Ajao-Isolo-Okota on the right, until Amuwo, Festac, satellite city, Ejigbo, Ikotun etc., are Igbo dominated. Cross to trade fair, and consider all the areas left and right between the Trade Fair and Alaba International, are dominated by the Igbo. The local government of Ojo, Ajangbadi, Iba Estate, Okokomaiko, Afromedia, Agbara Estate and all residential neighbourhoods to Badagry are dominated by the Igbo. These places are at least 1/3 of the state of Lagos, and the population is at least 75% Igbo. Then back to Ikeja, especially Omole Estate, Phase 1 and 2, Magodo, Oworonsoki, Lekki, Ajah etc., these areas have at least 50% to 60% Igbo residents. Yet, the Igbo as a collective continued to support the political interests of the Fulani to prevail over the Yoruba and all other nationalities in Nigeria as President of the country.

Financial, fiscal or social crises in Igboland seem to fuel their movement to Yorubaland as Lagos is perceived as a safe haven with no barriers to entry. The Obafemi Awolowo development of Western region has made living in Yorubaland relatively good value. We stand out as tolerant, culturally sophisticated and uniquely situated for living, working and studying. However, the unregulated movements of Igbo people into Yorubaland have reduced the standard of living of Yoruba citizens and extended Igbo’s criminality to our space. If Yoruba really does prove to be the most educated race in Nigeria and wants self-preservation as well as security of life and property of its citizens, residents and visitors, then suburban Lagos and other state capitals in Yorubaland will arrest and deport Igbo immigrants involved in armed robbery, kidnapping, vandalism, piracy, production and distribution of adulterated drugs, prostitution, importation of substandard and prohibited goods, organized crimes, street begging, street trading, human and child trafficking, and child labour.

It is an insult to the young Yoruba to have the same opportunities with immigrants Igbo and other non-Yoruba in Yorubaland. A peaceful Yorubaland is now a means to undermine the interests and well-being of young Yoruba people. Under Nigeria's deficient unitary system, the Igbo transformed Yorubaland into a dumping ground for all sorts of things. They imported into Yorubaland used underwear, bras, panties and clothing. Yoruba people and residents have contacted debilitating diseases, wearing these clothes. The Igbo travelled to China and other countries, imported into Yorubaland substandard drugs. Many Yoruba and residents of Yorubaland are known to have died as a result of fake drugs introduced into Yorubaland by the Igbo. They also imported used spare parts into Yorubaland and are known to have damaged many vehicles within Yorubaland. There is no advantage proportionate to the presence of Igbo in Yorubaland compared to what they received in Yorubaland. They helped turn Yorubaland into a service economy in comparison with the manufacturing economy of the 1960s. The Yoruba people have no substantive political power under our imperfect unitary system to control their space, wealth, human and natural resources.

As long as Nigeria remains a geographical location, political decisions in Yorubaland should aim to protect the welfare and interests of the Yoruba people before others. If Yorubaland is underdeveloped, Igbo will not move in masses on a daily basis. With everything they benefited from Yorubaland, they have continued to support the Fulani’s political interests while showing hatred for every full blooded Yoruba political leaders from the time of Awolowo and Akintola, to Abiola and now Tinubu. Our generation is theirs' Waterloo.

This ,clearly confirms how much other Nigerians hates igbos because we succeed where ever we go.
All we ask for is Biafra, give us our own country Oh Lord.
And too,I want the Op to swear that an Igboman has never put food on his table, that he has never slept with an Igbo lady.

People tend to hate what they want, when they can't have it.

I rest my case.

OP, you should be happy...the Igbos do not cause any trouble in Lagos. They are selfless and excellent developers. Abeokuta or Ibadan are not developed like Lagos, because of the massive investment by the Igbos. See...

Lagos State belongs as much to the ethnic Igbo as to the Yoruba, Ijaw, Hausa, Fulani, Efik, Idoma, Urhobo, Itshekiri, Edo, and so on who live in it, pay tax, identify with it, and settle in it. That compact was made the moment Nigeria became a single nation, and a successor power to the old principalities who were subdued and who ceded their sovereignty for the new commonwealth of Nigeria .
It was pragmatic. The Igbo had the skill and the industry, and Lagos was the seat of the Federal Government of Nigeria and its major port.

The Igbo have lived in Lagos since the 15th century when the Aro and other Igbo first settled in good number in a place we now call “Oyingbo” in the era of Benin and the Portuguese trade.
The arrival of Dr. Namdi Azikiwe to Lagos in 1937 from Accra after his studies in the United States, stimulated the political and cultural environment of Lagos as no other has before or after him. Zik literally resurrected the wizard of Kirsten hall from political death. Zik represented Lagos in the western house. The NCNC was the power in Lagos , and not the Action Group. The Igbo were prominent in the governance of Lagos in the Lagos City Hall .

The institutional development of Lagos – the railways, the ports and ship yards; the education and research facilities; the Banking and Commodities Exchange, the development of towns like Yaba, Surulere, Ebutta-Metta, Festac Town, Victoria Island, and now increasing the Ajah-Lekki axis, and of course, the ghettoes along the Orile-Badagry axis, have profound Igbo imprimatur. The circulation of the image of Lagos is to date best reflected in the cosmopolitan Igbo imagination of one of the greatest African writers of the 20th century, Cyprian Ekwensi, a thorough Lagosian if there was any. Igbo have built industries in Lagos and have been drivers of commerce and exchange.
Interestingly, I was born at plot number 8, Okoya Street , Idumagbo- Lagos, while the Ojukwu families were residing at number one to three on the same street. I grew up to know the father of Odumegwu Ojukwu. Chimbizie and Azuka grew up with us on the same street. Even the Chibeze small parking space at the end of Okoya Street is called Ojukwu. I later attended St. Patrick Primary School , Idumagbo, where I had very amiable classmates of Igbo origin in the persons of Azubike Ezenwa and Damian, Ihekuna, both now professors and doctors of today. They were brilliant, resourceful and friendly.

When we were playing bamboo and Tene Felele at Orikoriko at Onola playing ground, the Igbo participated actively. In the area of sports, school football and athletes, Igbo were dominant at Kings College, St. Gregory school, St. Finbars, Akoka, Igbobi College and Ahmadiyya College, Agege. Such boys, Njokwu, George Amu, Stephen Keshi, Henry Nwosu, Patrick Noquapor, Peter Anieke and Sammy Opone were dominant on the field of football, while Asiodu, Empire Kanu were prominent on the field of athletics.
Anytime we went to watch football match at Onikan stadium, my darling team, Stationery Stores and our adversary team I hated most was the E. C. N, where the centre forward, Paul Hamilton, the National Team, Fabian the captain who bit the dust. Our greatest captain was Duru, Oduah Onyenrekwa, Onyeador Onyeali and Opel, the greatest outside right Nigeria ever had, Cyril Azuluka. So, during my early life at primary school, the Igbo were always there and delightful to watch, both in athletes and on the football field.
When I listened to radio at that time, both the commentary and drama series, the Igbo were there for you. The likes of Chris Ndaguba, Ernest Okwonkwo, Ralph Okpara ‘Alawo Sekiseki the traveler’. The episode will end with – The script was written by Ralph Okpara and edited by Yemi Lijadu.

Anytime I visited where I was born today in Idumagbo at Lagos Island , the entire place is covered by Igbo traders in their thousands. They were never troublesome but decent and accommodating. They have virtually taken over all properties of the indigenes. They succeeded in developing all our properties, married to most of our children even from the royal families. There is no single house you will visit without an Igbo man selling wares there.
So, who is saying something else? Only the strangers in our midst will not notice participation of economic development in our state by the Igbos. Most houses and shops in Lagos Island have been purchased, developed and occupied by the Igbos. The value of their investments in Lagos Island alone is in trillions of naira.

Instead of deporting the Igbos, whose contributions to the development of Lagos state are immensurable, you must keep on praising and encouraging them to keep on developing Lagos State .

They are just too much in Yorubaland.. I wonder what is chasing them away from their region in droves.

These guys enter bus to Lagos, Ogun, Oyo and co. to live yet hurl insults and abuses at Yorubas daily that I begin to wonder what their real agenda in SW is.

I know One Nigeria gives people the freedom to move and live anywhere but Yorubas are not looking at the future of pure bred Yorubas. Stop giving them jobs meant for indigenes and stop allowing them meddle in Yoruba politics. There should be boundaries set but sadly our leaders are just too dull and carefree in SW that an atohunrinwa will come and be demanding rights that they can't allow other tribes in their place. Even to sell common land to other tribes na wahala, they'll claim their ancestors won't be happy bla bla bla.

Tribalism aside, Yorubaland is for Yorubas and Yoruba rights must be protected. Let Igbos or whoever go back and develop their lands, afterall they get same allocations and have senators and reps at NASS just like SW. The cheating and overcrowding of SW is becoming unbearable.

When Igbos came to Lagos, you were still far away at Irabiji in Osun state, not aware there was town called Lagos then...

The greatest form of cowardice is when a person refuses to face his real enemy, but instead continues to provoke a peaceful friend.
Among kids, you would find that some kids are so cowardly that they would never face a bully, NO MATTER WHAT.
They would rather redirect their anger and attack their own brother than face that bully. grin

Which Yorubas...Lagos was majorly a different town then...owned parlty by the Binis....

When Igbos came to Lagos, you were still far away at Irabiji in Osun state, not aware there was town called Lagos then...

See...

The Igbo have lived in Lagos since the 15th century when the Aro and other Igbo first settled in good number in a place we now call “Oyingbo” in the era of Benin and the Portuguese trade.

Stop hurting...Igbos are very nice people and they help any society where they are found.

...and beside they left in 1967...giving away their properties, but you starved millions of them to death..so they MUST come back...

So?

Nice people indeed.. all the 419 and scams your people are doing in Alaba market, the fake drugs Dora Akunyili fought against and fake spare parts and tyres causing accidents on a daily are all there..

I know Igbo in and out like my palm and I know how the average one amongst you reason which is to outsmart, outdo and dominate others. Na the Yorubas wey dey give una face dey end up in regrets.
You'll never see Igbo call Hausa or Fulani cowards the way they call Yorubas because Hausas readily treat your fvckups and they are still treating it till tomorrow. The rubbish the likes of Tinubu allowed you people do in Lagos, the Hausas and gwaris have refused such in Abuja. Who you be to say Abuja or Nasarawa is no man's land.

JaroMan:

Please, Lagos doesn't belong to Yorubas. It's only in SW because of geography but it doesn't belong to Yoruba. Please let's be guided.

Fools. Why not contest for elections then?

So because you do sk-ll mining, jibiti, Oluwole, Jankara human parts, Yahoo plus, fake agbo drinks that destroy thousands of kidney, etc..there are no good Yorubas?

Leave matter...only God knows why you didn't support them to leave in 1967...your peace would have been completed by now.

Who knows how Lagos would have been today, without them...

For some funny reason, you still do not want them to leave, so you can have Lagos to yourself...

Strange isn't it?

This is serious. I don't fully agree with this write-up on some points. The undertone of it is that there are some aggrieved Yorubas that are just tolerate Igbos. If there is a break up of Nigeria today, there could be a move to oust Igbo people out. The claim of no man's land stupidity of Igbos could forment trouble. Many innocent, decent of them could be badly affected.
In the Northern Nigeria, after break up, if it ever materialized,Igbos will not find life too easy. Yorubs are still lenient and accommodating, the disposition of the Hausa- Fulani will be better imagined.
